One of the ongoing, ulcerating wounds in American society is the struggle of America's first citizens for their rights as sovereign people. CERTAIN is an organization I belong to that is involved in trying to change this grim situation, as well as to end the targeting of Indian people as racial stereotypes. Yeah, it is a big order: we need your help, in fact. Not money, just energy.
The Indians of North America have been hammered on for over 500 years, now. The wars continue. One of the prisoners of this war is Leonard Peltier. He was tried and convicted, on poor evidence, of killing to FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. The government's actions against him were part of a broader scheme: to silence dissent, to create situations where firepower could be used to try to keep "order."
