"It took 23 years to get this stupid, I'm wondering, when will I get wise?"
I'm living in a basement apartment in Chicago. There's only
one small window through which I can see a patch of sidewalk, a fire hydrant
and people from the knees down as they pass by. It's a dog's eye view, and
I feel like a kid in this world of adults. I'm trying to figure out who
I am and when I'm going to get the chance and the courage to stand up and
say I've arrived.
