eye view in Tucson. Currently on tour in support of their debut
album, Happy Nowhere, the band's criss-cross travels of the
U.S. will land them in our fair city at The
Rock. The singer/songwriter of this group, Peter Stuart, has a long heritage
of touring around the world. Both on his own, and as an opening
act for the likes of Counting Crows, Stuart has logged countless
miles as a solo performer. Now with a full band, a Top 40 single
and highly visible video have garnered fame for both him and his
band. Peter Stuart called from a cell phone during a
thunderstorm for an interview. Here is the jist of it:
Muchacho: Hello?
Peter Stuart: Hi, this is Peter Stuart.
M: I can hardly hear you, I think there's a storm...
PS: Yeah, I'm calling from a cell phone. I'm in a car on my way to sound check.
M: So, what is your live show like?
PS: It's like our record, but liver, we move around a lot. We play a lot to the crowd and change from night to night, it's a fluid thing.
M: Do you play mostly songs from your record?
PS: Yeah, but we do some new stuff and some covers as well.
M: What songs have you been covering lately?
PS: Occasionally [unintelligible] and once in a while Neil Young, you know.
M: Do you think of yourself as primarily a live performer?
PS: For sure we're a live band, the live show is very important to us.
M: Have you ever been to Tucson before?
PS: Yeah, we played Gibson's a few months back
M: Oh, umm, that's in Phoenix.
PS: Yeah? I think we did play in Tucson a few months back with Matthew Sweet, but I'm not really sure.
M: You appear to be nearing the end of a two-month tour, are you ready for a break?
PS: Not really, it will be nice to take a couple weeks off, but I'm ready to keep going through Christmas.
M: Are you working on new material?
PS: Yeah, we've got some new songs in the live set, and we're getting ready to start that up again.
M: OK, well, I can't really hear much of what you're saying, so I guess thats it. Thanks.
