Notes from the road
December 3, 1997Greetings all:
Sorry I've been missing in action for a while, but it's been a whirling time on the road. I'm finally home in Seattle and I've had a few days to chill out.
I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was terrific, although I did miss the South Park Thanksgiving special which made me very sad. It's sad but true, I think South Park is genius. I know it's infantile, but I think that Cartman is a visionary. Okay, maybe not a visionary, but he's cool.
Dog's Eye View is off the road for a while. Tim is back in England, and as of Today, Dermot is in Australia. Alan is in New York, and I'm doing some solo dates here and there and trying to get the world to listen to "Last Letter Home". We finished a video a couple of weeks ago, and with any luck we can hope to see that on VH1 soon. I'm also trying to persuade everyone at the record company that it's really important to promote the new single at SKI RESORTS. Of course I just really want to get some free lift tickets and accommodations and I'll do anything for them. E-mail me if you have any ideas on that front.
I've been spending my time off reading --all of Mark Helprin's books, Into the wild--by Jon Krakaur, Cold Mountain--by Charles Frazier, Midnight in the garden...-by John Berendt and some others.
I've also seen loads of movies, most of which were horrible. The good ones stand out on Two fingers. Boogie Nights and The Ice Storm. I really loved the Ice Storm--the acting was terrific and the story was beautiful and seamless. It's a really wonderful movie.
I've been listening to a band called "wheat", as well as lots of "built to spill" and some "elliot smith" as well. Lots of Jazz too. I'm sort of burned out on rock at the moment after four months on the road.
So what's next for us? Well, that's a good question. I'm hoping to fit a bunch of skiing and rock climbing into the next few months in between shows, and I really hope that "last letter home" gets heard. The more people I speak to the more I realize that people don't know we've got a second record out, and I'd love to change that. I'm hoping to do a solo acoustic tour next year, as I'm really enjoying doing those shows at the moment. After that I guess it's time for a new record. But for now, it's daisy, daisy, daisy. Help Spread the word. IF you feel like it, e-mail Rosie O'Donnell at www.rosieo.com and suggest that I, or we, play on her show. In addition, you can e-mail vh1 and tell them to play the new video.
Hope all's well. Hope to see you soon. I'll try to keep some stories coming on the site, instead of just catching y'all up on the latest news. Okay, my batteries are out. See ya'
Peter
