if this is now, we must be here

December 1, 1995

Greetings from Asbury Park. We're here playing tonight on a two week tour that has us wandering around the Northeast. The shows have been going really well so far. Here are the highlights.

The tour started in Boston a few nights ago, and despite the fact that we wound up playing on a heavy metal night, the show was nice. We had a few loyal fans there who actually outnumbered the guitar players warming up by the side of the stage. It was nice to play a longer show and try out a new song or two.

After Boston we played a fantastic show at the Mercury Lounge in Chicago. Our entire record company came down in support of the show. Ordinarily this might mean a crowd full of jaded folks who don't listen to music, but the crowd was whisper quiet during quiet songs and enthusiastic throughout. Heather Eatman opened the show and she was great. She has a new CD out called "mascara falls" on Oh Boy records.

Last night we played in Philadelphia with Ben Arnold and his band. It was a fun show. I got to sing "dead flowers" with ben's band and despite a sleepy crowd we played really well.

Well, that's what shows have been. I get to see our Video on Monday, so I'll let y'all know what it's like.

Now playing:
Michael Kroll--Ether County. A great record by a great NY songwriter.
Radiohead--The Bends. My favorite record of the year by far.
Sparklehorse--vivadixiesubmarinetransmission. A really cool record.

See you later.

Peter

P.S. We've just gotten a quick take camera so we'll have pictures to go along with these notes any day now.
