Howdy. This is the first of what I hope will become a series of notes from the road for all of you checking in on the dog'seye view web page.
I'm in a hotel lobby in San Francisco getting
ready to drive overnight to Eugene, Oregon to start
our three day stint with Belly and Catherine Wheel.
Touring Info:We started out our first tour as a band about a month ago in Columbia, Missouri opening for Matthew Sweet. The record came out while we were in Chicago (where I used to live)so we got to celebrate with some good friends of ours and then we got back in the van and headed out across the midwest and into Texas. It took us a couple of dates to get our wits about us, but sincethen it's been relatively smooth sailing. After doing nearly two years of solo tours it has taken a little while to adjust to having other people up there on stage with me but in the past few weeks it has really started to feel right.
We had a great two day stay in Austin, TX and rested up for the drive across the desert to Arizona where we had two really great shows and, sadly, had to say goodbye to all the Matthew Sweet crew.
It's a cool thing to have the record out there and ready to be taken into the arms of real people. I've gotten pretty used to playing to people who have no idea who I am, that I'm not sure I'll know what to do when we start playing to people who've actually heard some of the songs before. I've been spending nearly every day going to radio stations to meet all of the people responsible for putting our song on the radio (that's supposed to happen in January). It's fun to meet the people who may, or may not, make the decision to put the song on the air.
what's next?
What's happening next, you may ask?
Well, We finish this run of dates on Nov. 3 and then
I head back to the eastcoast to do some promotional
stuff. Right after that, we'll film the first video for
the record. It's for the song "everything falls apart".
Mark Neale will be directing it (he directed some U2 stuff
and "round here"for Counting Crows). The video will go
to MTV and the single will go to radioin the middle
of January, so get ready to call up your local stations
and bug them to play the stuff.
Well, I should go for now. Feel free to write if you've got any questions. I hope you're all doing well, and as always, thanks for listening.
Peter
