Notes from the road September 8 1996

Rain, rain go away, come again when we're playing indoors--please?? We're wet. We've been wet for days. We seem to be playing in hurricanes these days. I mean, I've heard of "rocking like a hurricane" and all that, but this is ridiculous.

Okay, as you can probably tell, we've been doing shows outdoors on the East Coast for the past couple of weeks, and we haven't been getting too lucky on the ol' weather front. Other than that everything is going just fine. We had a lovely few weeks off and then headed right back into the thick of it. Dates should be up on the web-site if you're at all interested.

We're flying to Los Angeles this week to become big-time TV stars. Okay, well not quite TV stars, but we are flying to L.A. to tape an episode of the show Clueless. We've been asked to be the band at a school dance at the end of one of the episodes. Someone asked me if we're getting lots of money to do it, and unfortunately the answer is no, we're just gluttons for attention.

The "Small Wonders" video is done and should be showing up on the various video channels any minute now. Cross your fingers. If you find yourself near a phone, it would be very nice of you to call your local radio station to tell them to play "Small Wonders". Feel free to call every few minutes. If you work at a radio station and are reading this, don't give me grief, or I'll let your boss know you're wasting valuable company time on the internet.

One of the greatest things about having a record out and touring is the opportunity to go to new places that you might never get to otherwise. We recently had the pleasure of visiting Newfoundland. For those of you who are geographically challenged, Newfoundland is an Island off of the North-Eastern coast of Canada. We flew up there to play three shows. Incidentally, this was the beginning of our rain streak, but that's besides the point.

Newfoundland turned out to be a beautiful place, very reminiscent of Ireland (says Dermot) and Iceland (says me). The people were great and the shows were wild. We played to about ten thousand people a night, and they knew our music as well. It was fun to be treated so kindly so far away from home. I'd recommend heading up there to anyone--it's a beautiful place. At the end of our Canada trip we taped two TV shows and then headed back into the States.

Well, that's it for now. There's a "Small Wonders" single available in stores with an acoustic version of "Everything Falls Apart" on it, and as far as I know the album is still available too. Yes, it is available, Tim just told me.

Okay, that's it for now. We hope to see you soon. Have a great week.

Peter
