Rotary Trumpets

An American Player’s Perspective

by Daniel Graham

  • Perhaps the only book in English written primarily about rotary trumpets
  • Author studied with Charles Schlueter (Principal Trumpet, Boston Symphony)
  • Written from the perspective of a player originally trained on piston trumpets
  • A "How to ..." book, designed as an introduction to rotary trumpets, giving input on issues such as instrument and mouthpiece selection, care and maintenance, rotary technique and style, mixing rotary and piston trumpets...
  • Over 41,000 words

From the Preface:

When I first became interested in rotary trumpets I wanted detailed information about these instruments and their uses. But though there may have been excellent information available in print for those who read German or other central European languages (and, no doubt, directly from players and teachers in those countries), I found no book dedicated to this kind of trumpet in English... Because I still haven’t found a book of this kind, I have decided to make available to others what I have learned.

It is my aim to give trumpet players who read English, and who often live in parts of the world where piston trumpets are the "normal" trumpets, an introduction to rotary trumpets and insights on how to select, care for and play them.
