(See picture to Identify the type of chip you have) On Sale Now $14.99 (reg $19.99) Free USA shipping You have a PC that is down and most likely- you downloaded the BIOS in an attempt to enhance it's capabilities. Somehow you turned all of your work data (think of all of that hard drive data and more you have stored on that PC) into a beeping, buzzing, useless "brick"! Well, you are not alone. In fact, 1 out of 10 Do-It-Yourself BIOS upgrades fail. BIOS chip vendors even post their latest upgrades for free on the Internet. It is free to download and upgrade. However, if something goes wrong- it's time for a new PC for most people because after a failed Do-It-Yourself BIOS upgrade- the PC won't run at all - the "Black Screen of Death"! 30 years experience programming all types of Eprom, ROMs, EEprom, and Flash chips. Too many to list them all. The equipment is specialized and gives factory fresh new results. What do You Offer That is Different and Better Than All of The Rest? Your original BIOS chip was carefully chosen to last a lifetime of use. It will not erase all by itself (some viruses do this, and is checked and screened for this.) It has the original stickers on it. It states the name of the BIOS on the chip. It also has the original version of BIOS printed on the label. Dr Virago Pete's BIOS reflashing service takes your original BIOS chip and carefully do the following things to it: 1) Verify every single memory location on it for its ability to store the BIOS file. 2) Check it for correct speed and timing (your original chip is unique to your motherboard and my cure gets it "Good as New") 3) Save the existing memory contents (for future reference) 4) Erase every memory location thoroughly and completely- Wipe it clean! Not only clean. Thoroughly and completely clean- free from any hidden dangers like viruses or trojans which can lurk- Is that what caused your chip to need an upgrade in the first place? 10% of the time the answer is yes- keep reading. 5) Find the latest BIOS available online (or you can provide one of choice- no problem the customer always gets what you need) 6) Reprogram your existing chip with a Brand New BIOS file provided specifically for your motherboard What Problems Are Solved By A BIOS Upgrade? The biggest reason to upgrade your BIOS is the newer hard drive capacities are not supported by older BIOS chips. This is not the fault of your motherboard or of the Chip itself. The Chip holds a program or software on it. At the time your motherboard was made- hard drives weren't HUGE like today. If you want to take advantage of the low hard drive prices and don't need a new PC- then get a new hard drive and follow the instructions supplied by the HDD vendor (Western Digital, Maxtor, Seagate, and More) are very good brands and generally provide good software and instructions on how to do this. If your BIOS only supports up to 80GB drives and you try to install one larger- it won't recognize the whole drive or won't work at all. Incorrect BIOS to hard drive capacity can also make false readings such as a perfectly good CD-ROM/CD-R/CD-RW/DVD-ROM/DVD-RW etc not working anymore. Changing out the DVD or CD drive is not always the answer. Your old BIOS sometimes just can't handle some of the newer devices, and it is time to upgrade your BIOS (not your whole computer!) Does your computer have random glitches, freezes, reboots, crashes- you know hiccups? Some of these may be software glitches in the BIOS! Can I Switch from one BIOS mfg to another? I will research your particular motherboard and so should you. In rare cases, there exists two or more updated BIOS files that can be loaded onto your existing chip. Generally switching from AMI to AWARD to PHOENIX is not possible. The BIOS won't look all that much different from your original one in most cases. It has extra features or BUG cures - this is something the BIOS chip MFG provides free for download. Check your motherboard MFG's home page and look up your motherboard model. I Tried to Do-It-Myself and Now My PC is Junk I can fix it, Really; Don't throw it out. Some of your files are personal or even financial. Beware of taking your PC to a shop or have a close friend look at your belongings. You may get more than you bargained for. Is there anything personal or revealing about the BIOS CHIP? No. It is not something that users can save to. The BIOS chip is read by your PC the moment you turn it on and it teaches the PC which devices you have attached (memory, devices, speed, timing, and much much more) Without the BIOS, the PC becomes confused and shows the "Black Screen of Death" as technicians call it. Don't worry, I can fix it and no your PC is not permanently dead (you must restore a working BIOS version for it to run). Why Fix My Old Chip When Some Sellers Will Sell Me a New One? Your "old" chip (a better word is existing chip) is higher quality, faster, more compatible and reliable. Let's say you bought the New chip somewhere else- what would happen to your old one? Throw it out? Bad Idea. That's like trading a $20 bill for a $2 bill. Yes, new chips are fine too, but you will always be able to tell it is not factory stock. That can affect your resale value if you ever go to sell your PC. Keep it all factory stock- that is always the best policy for everything you fix! Well, isn't reprogramming the BIOS a modification? No, it brings your PC EXACTLY to factory stock using your original chip and puts the latest factory stock BIOS version (or any version of your choice- you can supply or just point out which one you want) on your chip. Remember, Chip MFGs provide these files free. The problem is that if you don't do it right, your PC will for all practical purposes be DEAD. I can perform this for you to prevent the "Black Screen of Death" or after you already have killed it! For 100% compatibility- keep your existing chip and upgrade its' resident software. What Equipment Do You have? Erasing equipment, Verification Equipment, UV or electrical type chip compatibility custom modifications (30 years of eprom programming experience and more) Reference Library for extensive chip selection types and specifications, Pin straightening equipment. Static protection devices. Much much more. Rest assured you will get a great result. What If the Black Screen of Death Wasn't My Fault? Some mfgs put beta versions of their BIOS files online. Sometimes a corrupted version acidently gets online. Sometimes the original BIOS on your mainboard is full of bugs and glitches. I agree, it may not have been your fault at all! Let's just fix it! A new PC even a cheap one is $450. Save yourself hundreds or thousands by spending the small money to get your old chip fixed. You don't have to get the latest BIOS version if you don't want to. Chip MFGs usually list several versions from oldest to newest. You Choose! There is a list of motherboards, chips, and more below that I am able to fix, reprogram, upgrade: -------------------------- Standard BIOS/Flash/ROM Type Chips (Check under your sticker for a part number match) The Most Popular Chips Common in Pentium 3 and Pentium 4 MBs: 1) SST 39SF020A or 39SF040A (PLCC popular in Pentium 4 MB) 2) AMIC A290021T (DIP popular in Pentium 3 MB) 3) 29F002 (DIP Many Variations and Brands Popular in Pentium 3MB) 4) Winbond W39V080APZ (PLCC popular in Pentium 4 MB) 5) Many Many More- see list below (if you don't see it on the list email me) 27C16, 27C32, 27C64, 27C128, 27C256, M87C256, 27C512, 27C010, 27C020, 27C040, 27C080, AT27C080, 27C1024, 27C210, 27C2048, 27C240, 27C4002, 27C400, 27C800, 27C160, 27C322, 2716, 2732, 2764, 27128, 27256, 27512, 27010, 27020, 27040 W27x256, W27x512, W27x010, W27x020, W27x040, W27C02, MX26C1000, MX26C2000, MX26C4000, SST27SF256, SST27SF512, SST27SF010, SST27SF020, SST27SF040, SST37VF512, SST37VF010, SST37VF020, SST37VF040, 28C64, 28C65, 28C128, 28C256, 28C010, 28C020, 28C040, 28C16A, 28C16, XLS2816, XLS2864, X2804, X2808, CAT28C64, CAT28C65, AT28C16, AT28C17, AT28C64B, AT28C256, AT28C010, AT28C020, AT28C040, CAT28C64B, CAT28C256, CAT28C512, CAT28C513, 28F64, 28F128, 28F256, 28F512, 28F010, 28F020, 28F040, AM28F256A, AMF512A, AMF010A, AMF00A, 28F001, SST28xF040A, LE28F4001 MX28F1000P, MX28F2000P, MX28F2000T, 29F64, 29F128, 29F512, 29F010, 29F020, 29F040, M29F512B, M29F010B, M29F040B 39SF512, 39SF010, 39SF020, 39SF040, 49F512, 49F010, 49F020, 49F040, MX29F001T, MX29F002T, MX29F004T, MX29F001B, MX29F002B, MX29004B, MX29F040, MX29F1610, 29F001T, 29F002, 29F002NT, AT49F001, AT49F001NT, AT49F001T, AT29F002, ATF002NT, ATF002T, AT49F008A, AE49F2008, AM29F002T, F29C51001T, F29C51002T, F29C51004T, A29010, A290011, A290021, A29040A, A29001, A29002, AMA29010, AMA290011, AMA290021, AMA29040A, AMA29001, AMA29002, SST39SF512, SSTSF010, SSTSF020, SSTSF040, SST39VF512, SST39VF010, SST39VF020, SST39VF040, 29F64, 29F128, 29F256, 29F512,29F010, 29F020, 29F040, 29F080, 29F001,29F002, 29F004, 29F008, 29F016, 29F032, 27C64, 27C128, 27C256, 27C512, 27C010, 27C020, 27C040,27C1001,M27C1001, M27C2001, M27C4001, 27C080 (A19) ,M27C801,M87C257, 28C65,28C64, 28C128, 28C256,28C512, 28C010, 28C020, 28C040, 28F64, 28F128, 28F256, 28F512,28F010, 28F020, MX26C1000, MX26C2000, MX28F1000, MX28F2000, 29F64, 29F128, 29F256, 29F512,29F010, 29F020, 29F040, 29F080, 29F001,29F002, 29F004, 29F008, 29F016, 29F032, 24C02,24C04,24C08,24C16, 85C72, 85C82, 85C92, 93C06, 93C46, 93LC46, 93C56, 93C57, 93C66, 93C76, 93C86 (8bit), AT59C11, AT59C22, AT59C13, 16C84, 16F84, 6F84A ,16F627/16F628, 12C508/A, 12C509/A, 12CE518, 12CE519, 16C505, 16C620 16C621, 16C622, 16CE623, 16CE624, 16CE625, 16C710/711, AT29C256, AT29C512,AT29C010A, AT29C020, AT29C040,AT29C040A, W29EE512,W29EE011, W29EE012, W29C020(128), W29C040, AT28C256, AT28C010, AT28C040, W39V080apz, W39V040XXXX, W39V080XXXX, XXXX means can contain various suffix of letters here- email me to confirm your chip type before clicking Buy-It-Now The following may require a longer lead time than 1-2 working days. This is due to locks located within the chip. Competitive vendors selling inexpensive low-grade chips are about half. You get what you pay for. Get peace of mind and do it right! 1) Carefully extract your BIOS Chip (your computer is not only off but it is unplugged right?) 2) Peel the sticker to the side a little so you can read the chip's identification number 3) Email me with compatibility questions, motherboard model, CPU/processor type, general health information about your PC 4) If you located the BIOS file you want programmed, you can email it to me too! 5) Send me your old chip in bubble wrap or pierced in a styrofoam scrap piece. Your workplace will probably let you mail it for free right? Applicable to PCs running CNC equipment, business applications, servers, high integrity devices, security, insurance, storage systems, schools and more. reputable and trusted service with quick turnaround time. Do it the right way with the highest quality possible- your original chip! Ask me about specific quantities! Stay away from cheap sellers offering cheap fixes (non-genuine parts are not the best way to ensure trouble-free glitch-free operation) 1-2 day turnaround time in general. Harder ones may take longer (remember I have to locate the BIOS file online for your specific motherboard. If you have already found it- then just email me or send it along with your chip (CD-R, DVD+R, DVD-R, floppy disk, or flashdrive/thumbdrive, and SD cards only) Not responsible for broken flashdrives so please just burn the image you want to a disposable disk. The US post office is rough on packages and everything should be carefully packaged. A Case In Point: Here is an actual case study for the CUV4-D Asus Motherboard. Its' BIOS chip is a 29F002NT DIP (dual inline pin IC rectangle style with legs on two sides) The Original BIOS version which came with the board was 1004. It was loaded and installed running Windows ME and then XP. It had its share of glitches and upgrades and eventually was reflashed with BIOS version 1007 from file loaded from the MFG's website. After a few years it had gone through several upgrades CD-RW then DVD-RW and memory upgrades etc. It had a normal set of glitches and reinstalls from time to time. It was recently upgraded to BIOS version cuvd1016 and the flash didn't go succesfully. It seemed to go successfully but then was never able to even make it to the startup screen or access the BIOS by pressing the "DEL" key. "Black Screen of Death". The chip was manually flashed with the old versions one at a time with my eprom equipment and found that the BIOS files themselves were the issue. The older 1004 when reflashed was actually found to be the most compatible of all. The 1007 introduced CD-ROM reading issues (especially during install of an operating system that uses a bootable CD) and 1016 didn't work at all. For most people, the black screen means that your motherboard is now "bricked" or in other words junk (toss it - as in toss a brick). If you don't have the right equipment, the motherboard is useless. So why flash a BIOS- some BIOS upgrades actually work. Scavenge your BIOS versions right now from the MFG's website- It's Free afterall and save them to a disk or burn to a CD. If you find you have a compatibility issue and want to try to upgrade yourself- It's worth a try. Make sure you save a copy of your actual chip to disk. Email me with your actual chip number (under your sticker) and request it. Ask before clicking on buy-it-now. Why try to save your old motherboard instead of getting a newer faster stronger better one? Compatibility- some older equipment such as CNC mills are controlled by older technology at their heart and putting a faster mb in it will not work well often due to timing issues or card slot differences (remember EISA, ISA, VESA local bus, AGP, AGP Pro, PCI, and more?) If it works don't fix it is generally a good rule. If you botched up your flash or feel that the file was the problem- bring it back to factory stock. The above example of the CUV4-D motherboard works the best as factory stock. Remember, a particular style of MB may have several revisions but bear the same board number. Just because it's on the website doesn't mean it will work. I specialize in bringing things back to original factory stock. You can help by saving a copy on disk of your own BIOS files (get a copy of them all old and new because some of them may by faulty) in case you need them in the future.
