| Batt Cable Trophy Formartine United V Peterhead BC Peterhead travelled to Pitmedden to play Formartine in league cup section A. Both teams came into this clash in confident mood after winning their first games. Formartine started brightly and a quick one two put Peterhead on the back foot right from the start as Formartine was using the slope of the park and the wind to their advantage. Peterhead began to settle down and a shot from Scott Walker just went by the post. Formartine shocked Peterhead when an in swinging corner caught the Peterhead defence out of position and the alert Formartine centre headed the ball into the top corner. Peterhead then started a move playing one touch football involving Kyle Ritchie and Steven Davidson, ending with Jack Mclean bulleting in a tremendous header from a cross from Kyle into the top corner giving the Formartine keeper no chance. Peterhead took the lead after another quick passing move from Shaun Anderson and Aidan Innes found Kyle Ritchie again on the wing and his cross was met with a great strike from Scott Walker which flew past the keeper. Formartine broke through and it prouced a fantastic save from Alexander Buchan in goals for Peterhead to turn the ball round the post. Steven Davidson then went on a solo run from the halfway line beating three defenders and then cooly struck his shot past the despairing keeper. Scott Leckie fired over a cross which was cleared by the Formartine defener into the path of Shaun Anderson which took a deflection to Stevn Davidson who rifled the ball into the net to make it 4-1 at half time. Peterhead started the second half in style with a quick goal from Scott Leckie who finished off a great cross from Scott Walker. Formartine were not beaten yet and they played some lovely football to get back into the game but Alexander Buchan was having an inspiring game and twice brought off some excellent saves when the Formartine forward was clean through. Ryan Urquhart who had been moved into midfield then opened up the Formartine defence with a great pass to Aidan Innes who slipped the ball to Jack Mclean who thundered the ball past the keeper to make it 6-1 for Peterhead with 15 minute to go. Shaun Walker then delivered the perfect ball into the path of Steven Davidson who nearly burst the net with his shot to complete his hat trick. Scott Kelly then became the provider with a terrific pass to Aidan Innes who slotted it home under the keeper. Formartine were not to be undone and scored with a lovely chip over the keeper. Aidan Innes then scored his second when he waltzed by two defenders before coolly placing the ball by the keeper to finish the game 9-2 for Peterhead. Although there were stars all over the park in this game the outstanding display from Alexander Buchan in goals for Peterhead earned him the Man of the Match. Peterhead have 6 points from their two section games and now need only a point from their final game to step into the Aberdeenshire and District A League at their first attempt. |
