| Peterhead BC uner 13s playe hosts to the highly rate Deveronvale BC in the first roun of the Batt Cable Trophy. This was the fist encouter of the two premier league teams this season and they serve up a cracker of a game to entertain both sets of fans. Peterhead went straight into attack and a terrific cross from Steven Davison went straight to the feet of Aidan Innes who fired his shot of the goalpost with the keeper well beaten but the ball was eventually scrambled clear. With only 10 minutes of the game gone Peterhead created another chance which looked if it was easier to score than miss, but again the ball went by the post. Deveronvale at this point were being pushed back into defence and were lucky not to be two goals down. Peterhead eventually scored after a great run by Jack Mclean was knocked onto the path of Steven Davidson who rattled his shot by the diving keeper. Deveronvale gradually came into the game and their speedy centre forward nipped in after the Peterhead defence were slow to clear the ball and equalised. The game was end to end now and both defences had to keep on their toes from the advancing midfielders. Peterhead went again in front when Steven Davidson fired over a wicked corner kick and Jack Mclean rose to bullet a header past the keeper. Kieran Bruce and his co defenders of Jason Bain, Ryan Urquhart, Ryan Scott and Lewis Lawson were being kept on their toes by the dangerous Deveronvale forwards. Just as Peterhead were looking to kill off the game the defence let the Vale striker score with an easy tap in. Alexander Buchan in goals for Peterhead was havin an inspiring game an came to Peterheads rescue when he had to sprint off his line to clear a breakaway from Devronvale. Peterhead went in front for the third time after another menacing kick from Steven Davidson was met at the inside post by Aidan Innes who fired home. With only five minutes to go for half time against the run of play Deveronvale broke away and after a slip by the Peterhead defender their midfielder struck the ball hard and low by the keeper. After the break and with all the players and fans refreshed, everybody was looking forward to the second half to live up to the spectacular first half. The crowd were not to be disappointed as Peterhead for the fourth time went in front after a splendid peice of football from Scott Walker and Jack Mclean finished off with Aidan Innes crossing to Scott Kelly who scrambled the ball over the line. Connor Wilson wsas playing his heart out to close up the midfield and was being well supported by the very hard working Kyle Ritchie. With the speey defender Lewis Lawson having to come off injured Jamie Meek was drafted in to cover the defence and had a splendid game with his terrier tackles. Scott Leckie who had been working like a Trojan in his role of striker was replaced by Shaun Anderson who showed his worth with some lovely passes to the advancing midfielders. With only five minutes of the game left and Peterhead trying to close up the game, Deveronvale who had never gave up during the game set up extra time with a terrific strike from their winger which flew over the defence and past the keeper. The first half of extra time was end to end and a credit to both teams who were fighting fatigue and both keepers had to work overtime as chances were coming a begging. The second half of extra time went the same way until the Deveronvale winger broke away from his marker and ran on to fire a shot past the keeper to put Deveronvale in front for the first time and proved to be the match winner. Peterhead were unlucky to lose the game but the coaches were well pleased with their performance as a team today. |
