| Peter Brown: The Charcoal and Pastel Drawings Widcombe Studios Gallery, Alton Place, Widcombe, Bath. to see directions click here 13th and 14th October (10am - 5pm) (private view: 6.00pm - 8.30pm Friday 12th October) This show consists of nineteen drawings/paintings executed in the last year. They fall into three categories: Charcoal street scenes; pastel street scenes; and charcoal caricatures/portraits. The charcoal street scenes I suppose I do not need to comment on except to say that I have really enjoyed playing with sizes (from 8" x 10" to 26" x 52"). As for the caricatures, well these have always been bubbling around. They act as my break from direct observation and let me take my imagination for a short walk. Within this group are a couple of semi-observed drawings. Finally there are the pastels. In December 2000, just before New Year I was in Reading without my oils and it snowed! I drove into Reading and left some awful craft shop with my first set of chalk pastels. The pastel I did that day was of Goring in the snow. The second pastel I did some weeks later was of Lansdown in the snow. The following seven pastels I have done for this show all executed from the comfort of the driving seat in my car while parked on double yellows across Bath. You can access all the works by clicking on the titles below. I am afraid you will haveto use your "Back" key to return to the index each time. I hope you enjoy the show. |
