>Make sure you have the right room. I was assigned one that didn't exist (3027 Brown, you try to find it).

>Your students might actually call you, though don't count on it. I got two in one day once.

>Don't assume that all of your students use email or even the internet, only about half of mine did.
>You're going to have to emphasize the purchase of these items with assignments. Once they see that they have to use them, they're more likely to buy them.
>Fee cards are especially tough to get. Try having conferences at the Bernhard Center so that you can send your students across the hall to buy them.
>Keep it nice and simple. Don't demean your students. Most of them should already know why they're in your class.
>Be specific. List everything that they might have to do for points in your class.
>Be ultra-specific. Revisit how the cycle work on the first day and every day until you're sure that they understand. My students came in with full blown draft on the second day of class, then didn't bring multiple copies on peer review day. The more you talk about it the easier it will be, and give it to them in writing every time the start an essay.
Mandate that you must see each paper before it's turned in. It will save you so many headaches. I wish I would have done it.
>You can't actually fail them for not doing it, but you can threaten to. Make sure to schedule this to be due early enough before the drop date so that your students can know their grades and have a few days to a decision if they need to drop.
