Last saturday I went to the double concert given by Bagheera and PTS in Veenendaal. It was the first time I saw them perform live and they didn't disappoint me. They started round a quarter to ten and played for some one and a half hour.
Their setlist surely was the best choice they could have made: A Father's Face, The Laggard, Andante Concitato, Silence at Romney Marsh, I Wandered lonely as a Cloud, Murdress in Mind, Turn the Page and The Inheritance of Leviathan.
The sound quality was very bad in the beginning and got only little better towards the end of the set. I don't blame the band - there was just too little room for a band like this.
I think the band gave a good show and leaves no doubt about their craftmanship where music and composition is concerned. What I expected but didn't hear were any improvisations. The live version of the songs stay quite close to the album versions.
The funny thing about this band is that they have an orthodox hard rock guitarist, a classical trained keyboardist, a prog minded bass player, a hard rock oriented singer and a drummer who can do it all. This makes an interesting mixture of all kinds of styles, which gives the band their own personal sound.
When they play in a bigger place I'll surely go and see them again.
The second band, PTS, started palying round half past eleven. I stayed for
about half an hour, but found them little interesting. They look like the have
fun playing, but their music is quite straightforward, their drummer is decent
but not great and his vocals are mediocre.
Maybe they are able to convince someone else, but they they didn't convince me.
