Who
we are: UCHC is a 600+ member club of
mostly 40+ folks who enjoy the outdoors.
Weekdays we are retired or have alternate works schedules. As individuals we tend to do a fair amount of
travel usually of a more active nature, e.g., hiking, biking & skiing vacations. Several members are involved in doing trail
maintenance, e.g.,
with the New York
New Jersey Trail Conference. We tend to live in northern New Jersey, i.e., north of I-78 and east of I-287.
What
we do: The Union County Hiking Club has
scheduled hikes in Northern
New Jersey (north of I-78
between the Hudson & Delaware rivers) six days a week (no Fridays). The hike difficulty/level is based on the day
of the week:
Monday 10AM-Noon, about 3 miles on mostly flat terrain
Tuesday 10AM- 2:30 PM, about 6 miles with long up hills & downs, Hike 2
hours to a lunch
spot (bring your
own), lunch ½ hour, 2 hours to return to cars
Wednesday - 10AM
Noon, 4-5 miles on rolling terrain
We also bike
ride on Wednesdays in the warmer months. We do 20-30
miles at a touring
pace (10-12 mph with stops).
Thursday:
Our Hardest
hike: 10AM 3 PM, about 8 miles with ups & downs that may be
steep and/or require scrambling,
Hike 2 hours to a lunch spot (bring your own), lunch ½ hour,
2 hours to return to our cars
Alternative
hike: 10AM
3 PM, about 6 miles with
ups & downs that may be steep,

(bring your own), lunch ½ hour, 2 hours to return to cars
Friday-
