Yoga & Hiking Weekend in Stowe Vermont,

Aug 19-22, 2005 (Friday night – Monday morning)

Leave life’s stress behind with relaxing yoga sessions, followed by hiking, biking, walks in the woods, or just relaxing among Vermont’s nature. You can choose to do as much or little as you want. Arrangements have been made with a masseuse for massages for an extra cost of xxx. Our lodging in Stowe Vermont is at the Arbor Inn () located on the access road to Mt. Mansfield & Smugglers Notch.  The Inn offers something for everyone, including an outdoor hot tub and pool. If you have special dietary needs please make them known to the registrar. The Package cost is $285 ppdo (based on double occupancy, plus tax & 5% gratuity); It includes 3 nights lodging, 3 full breakfasts, 2 trail lunches, 2 dinners & 2 social hours, and yoga sessions. A $150 deposit is required to have a confirmed registration: the deposit is not refundable after July 20th.

When you participate in an activity, you should be both physically and mentally equipped with the appropriate gear. You should always be aware of the many risks involved in outdoor activities and conduct and prepare yourself accordingly. The trip leader is not responsible for your safety, “You are”. Prior to registering and participating for volunteer-led activities  you are required to fill out and sign this Volunteer Release Agreement.  If you’d like further information as to why the use of this form is necessary, please read this memo from our Risk Management Team.  You are, also encouraged to discuss your capabilities with the trip leader.  Getting to the INN:

 

By Automobile: (below are some suggestions for stops on the way)

  • From New York City:

      I-95 to I-91 to I-89N to Exit 10 (Waterbury / Stowe).  Make a right onto Route 100 N. go 9 miles to Stowe Village

      Left at stop sign (Route 108).  Arbor Inn is 3 1/2 miles on right.

 

·        From Northwestern NJ

I –287N to I-87N to Exit 20. Make a left on route 9 and follow signs for  (Route 149). Follow route 149 until US 4E to Vermont Exit 2 Fairhaven. Route 22A  N to South Burlington. I-89 for 1 mile to I-89S. I-89S to Exit 10 (Waterbury /Stowe).  Make left onto Route 100 N. go 9 miles to Stowe Village.

      Left at stop sign (Route 108).  Arbor Inn is 3 1/2 miles on right.

Northampton, MA area, nice town to eat & walk a round in:

Directions: From I-91 northbound, take Exit 18, at end of ramp turn left and follow Route 5 north (Pleasant Street) to downtown Northampton. At the junction with Route 9 (Main Street), take a left (Route 9 west) and proceed up the hill to the Smith campus. At College Lane, opposite Helen Hills Chapel, take a left to Lyman Conservatory.

·        Historic Deerfield - http://www.historic-deerfield.org/  14 museum houses and the Flynt Center of Early New England Life display more than 25,000 objects made or used in America between 1650 and 1850.

       Directions: From I-91 north to Exit 24. Turn right at top of ramp and go 6 miles on Routes 5 and 10 to Deerfield. Look for Historic Deerfield signs.

  • St Gaudens Sculpture Park – http://www.sgnhs.org/. Directions: From I-91, exit 8, Route 131 east, left onto Route 12 A north, approximately 10 miles. The site is located just off NH 12A in Cornish.

Ft Ticonderoga  http://www.fort-ticonderoga.org/ Throughout the day guided tours begin at the flag bastion, led by lively and knowledgeable men and women, proudly uniformed. This 20-minute historical talk will be followed by a musket or artillery demonstration (weather permitting). Then, entering the Fort through a passageway where George Washington, Benjamin Franklin, Ethan Allen, Benedict Arnold, and the Marquis de Montcalm also walked, visitors arrive on the Parade Ground. Knowledgeable, friendly and devoted staff are on hand to greet museum visitors and talk about the world-class exhibits of 18th-century arms, accouterments, personal effect of soldiers, paintings and maps.

Directions: Take the Northway (I-87) to Exit 28. Take Route 74 (East) to Ticonderoga and turn right at Route 9N. After approximately 1/2 mile, take a left at Fort Road.

  • Fourteen (14) Covered Bridges - the most in any county in Vermont

  • Lake Elmore, about 15 miles from Stowe. Obviously, there is a lake here, and one may rent a canoe at Elmore State Park. There is a nice trail there that leads to a look-out tower (about 1 1/2 hour hike each way).
