| Lorikeets are known as the "clowns of the bird world". We have found this to be a very apt discription. A typical day in our home is filled with giggles, whistles, hisses, burps, farts, heaps of talking and general merriment. Lorikeets have a pension for rolling around on the bottom of their cage, either wrestling a cage-mate or in a heated battle with an unruly toy. Our Lories vary in size from tiny "Squeek" the Varied Lorikeet to Kanga, a rather large Rainbow. There are 7 species of Lorikeets native to Australia. We have members of 5 of those (Rainbow, Red-Collar, Scaley Breasted, Musk, and Varied) and are hoping to add a Little and Purple-Crown to the flock soon. |
