Early 2nd grade, Matt started composing his own musical things. Then 6th grade, he learned trombome. 9th grade, he joined mnarching band and was section leader of the low brass in Harper Creek. In 11th grade, he took music theory to learn about harmnization. In his senior year, he took 4 music credits which lead to him getting accepted into the music department at NMU to pursue a degree in Theory and Composition. In 9th grade he learned how to play bass guitar and in 10th he picked up guitar and quickly joined the band midget milita which was a punk band with a lot of talent in it. It was offered a record deal with hell cats but was not able to accept because of excessive drug problems with most of the members. After this band had broken he then joined the band proff of purchase which was a clasic rock band which played one show and then broke up because of the left handedness of the gay drummer. Then Matt found himself in the band slanderers which then turned into Pestilent Anima with members Matt Kaz Chris Colin and not Scott
