What can Phi Eta Sigma-Alpha Lambda Delta do for me?

We can provide fantastic opportunities for you to make new friends, help you build leadership skills (which are useful in any career), provide opportunities for you to serve your university and your community, and we project an excellent image on your rsum.

Academics are our top priority! We want all of our members to succeed! If at any time, your GPA falls below a 3.5, you will not lose your membership. Quite the opposite! We want you to be able to approach your fellow members for help. With all of our junior and senior members, there is sure to be someone who has taken the same courses as you. We will be glad to help, or assist you in finding a way to bring your GPA back up.

Awards are available for our members. Both national and chapter scholarships are awarded every year. We offer undergraduate and graduate scholarships. With the high cost of a college education, you'll be glad you're a member!

We may study a lot, but we sure know how to have fun! Some of our past activities have included: ice skating, CSULB basketball games, museum trips, beach parties, City of Long Beach's Earth Day Beach Clean-Up and a whole lot more! Sometimes it's good to take a break from all of those textbooks!

Who is eligible to join?

All freshmen who have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, at the close of any semester during their first year, may join. Membership is by invitation only! All qualified students will be notified in the semester immediately following qualification. For example, if you end your fall term with a 3.5 or above, you will receive a letter of invitation the following spring semester.

How much does it cost?

As opposed to a sorority of fraternity, which can have one-time fees of up to $410 and monthly dues of up to $115, we have a one-time initiation fee of $70. This covers your dues for both National Phi Eta Sigma and National Alpha Lambda Delta, as well as pays for your certificates, pins and initiation dinner. Once inducted, you are a member for life - no dues will be collected after this.

Please don't be intimidated by our membership dues. While we cannot waive them for anyone, we may be able to work something out for people who need assistance. We don't want any deserving student to go unrecognized! Call our president if you have any questions or concerns.

One final note about the Initiation...

We receive phone calls from Initiates who are a bit nervous about the ceremony itself. There is nothing to be worried about! Since your parents, siblings and friends are invited to attend, you can be sure that we will not tar and feather you! Hazing is something that we do not condone.
