IDEAS FOR HELPING YOUNG WOMEN MAKE THE TRANSITION TO RELIEF SOCIETY EARLY PREPARATION

1. Have a mother-daughter (all ages) homemaking night during the year. Start early, even Primary age, so girls become familiar and comfortable with Relief Society.

THE YEAR BEFORE GRADUATION

1. The RS Secretary works with Young Women leaders and mothers, identifying Laurels for the RS Presidency, becoming acquainted with their talents, interests, abilities, and accomplishments.
2. Invite Laurels to a special Sunday lesson in RS, Homemaking, and/or other appropriate activity or social.
3. Ward RS luncheon or dinner for graduating Laurels could be planned by the ward RS Presidency and YW leaders.  A special presentation on RS could be made by the RS & YW Presidencies.
4. The Laurel class could teach a lesson or mini-class on Homemaking night.
5. Assign Visiting Teachers in the month before graduation..

AT TRANSITION TIME

1. Prepare a 'welcome packet' containing a RS manual, Pursuit of Excellence booklet, and any other appropriate items.  Have each new sister fill out a survey to see what she is interested in learning and what she could share.
2. When she attends RS for the first time, the graduating Laurel could be spotlighted in RS.
3. An individual interview or home visit could be made by the RS President alone or with the her presidency
4. Involve these young sisters!

? Ask her what women she admires in the ward.  Assign one of those sisters as her VT partner.
? Ask her to teach or help with a mini-class.  Draw on her talents.  The homemaking leader could be asked to work with her.
? Ask her to be on a committee: entertainment, decorations, food, etc.
? Ask her to participate in compassionate service.
? Assist/mentor her whenever she is called on to serve.  Use her mom or another sister.
? Brainstorm with RS Board members, YW President, Laurel advisor for other transition ideas.  Work together and calendar events together all year.

PLAN AHEAD!!

5. Use your imagination and let the Spirit be your guide.  Please share any successes you have in this work with your Stake leaders.
