Terminology of Breaking According to PERTHBBOY
--------------------------------------------

Here are some breaking related terms you may want to know for the descriptions of the vidz or just want to know.

Bboy/Bgirl - "b" for break/beat/bronx. A breakdancer, male or female.

Popping/Locking - 2 other forms of dance often incorperated with breaking. Popping is an umbrella term for many different funk styles like strobing, waving, tutting, strutting, gliding, frenso, boogaloo, and actual popping. Locking, created by Don Cambellock, involved locking of the joints, various points and other moves.

Uprock - not to be confused with Toprock. Is a 5 count dance and looks like a kung fu fight without contact. Done by 2 people that are battling or a whole group of people such as 2 crews that are battling.

Toprock - not to be confused with Uprock. Looks like the breaker is skipping or shuffling around in a circle. Used to clear an area to break and/or hype up the breaker. Its all your own style and this is one place where you get to express your self lots.

Tech - a little move created by an individual breaker that they use as part of their style most likely in footwork.

Downrock - a general term. Anything where the breaker is close to the ground doing footwork. This includes backrock, footwork, threads and freezes.

Backrock - more specific area of downrock. Looks like the breaker is rolling around on their back but is probably doing threads or a transition between freezes or footwork.

Footwork - another component of downrock. This is stuff like 6step, 4step, 3step, 2step, helicopter, tripswipe, swipes, and whatever techs and styles the breaker puts in.

Freeze/Pose/Stall - basically the same thing. The breaker stops everything and holds a difficult and nice looking position for a second or two to show off style, originality, strength, balance and flexibility.

Threads - when a breaker holds a body part(ie: foot, hand) and puts arms and legs even head through the loop and makes it look like they are threading their own body like thread through a needle hole. This shows off flexibility creativity and style.

Floats - when the breaker holds his body on just his hands and body is anywhere from 45degrees to parallel to the ground. Can be in a pose or spinning(like in turtles).

Suicide - where the breaker suddenly looks as if they died and land flat on their back(or sometimes the front). Is susposed to look painful but if done right doesn't hurt much because of the same thinking with the snowshoe on snow not sinking because of weight being spread out. Much respect is given for nice looking suicides.

Planche - is French for board. Breaker uses the arms to hold there body parellel to the ground. Looks like a turtle freeze but without the elbows touching the gut.

Biting - stealing and/or copying another breakers move without asking. Does not include set moves like 6step and windmill but if a breaker has a certain tech the like to use in their footwork and thats part of their style, or a freeze that they made up, if one steals the move its VERY RUDE and NO respect is given to people that bite because its RUDE and they have no CREATIVITY or STYLE.

Tapping - when headspinning a breaker may quicking put their hands down and "tap" the ground for more momentum and/or correction in balance.

Turtle Pos. - a position where the breaker's body is parellel to the ground supporting his body on his hands and his elbows(one for one handed) are stabbed into the lower gut just above the hips and is balancing. 3 pointed is when the head is on the ground helping, 2 points is both hands and 1 pointed is one handed.

AirFlare - not to be confused with AirTrack. The difference is that in this the breaker is spinning on both the X and Y axis.

AirTrack - not to be confused with AirFlare. The difference is that in this the breaker is only spinning on the X axis.

Nutcrackers, handcuffs, babymills, supermans - are all variations of the windmill. Some with arms extended or behind back, hands on nuts or even a different way of spinning.
