Marraige Poetry

What an Interesting Topic

Even though I have not married as of yet, our date set for April 2004, I think marriage poetry is very scarce. So I am going to set out here, to decribe my experiences in love and in poetry as to why I, personally, love my Jeff and am devoted to loving him the rest of my life.

ENGAGING CONVERSATION

soft, sparkly beads of water
swish against the distant shore

he stood before me, human and flushed
i stewed with inner conflict
three years of love and companionship,
his hand on my shoulder
draws me against him, sketches his eyes in shadow
beautiful eyes

"Will you?"
Will you marry me, will you be my wife?

excitement, confusion, the fuss tumbles into disuse
a whole new world, a whole lifetime, comes into being

LOVING YOU

a heel
under the covers, pink and vunerable
its owner watches me with suspcious eyes
i sneak a hand from behind my back and

big, star hands flash in the bathroom window
Good-bye! they say, shaking like jazz

purple couch, against the window in the sun
i tap on the window
is he still on it
he springs up like a jack-in-the-box

a shared, mournful hug as my horse drives into a new life without me
tender
fingers in my hair, kiss on my cheek, bringing me awake kindly
three roses on the table and a cell phone set to charge

blowing good-bye kisses through the window
paying bills by lamplight
laughing at the cat
going to bed at eight

I love you
how much better can it be?!
