When Alicia - Paige was born by caesarean section she was 5 weeks premature
as the doctors said her Brain was smaller than what it should have been and her Heart
was bigger
than what it should have been she weighed just 4lbs & was rushed straight
to s.c.b.u in an incubator and on oxygen. We couldn't hold Alicia - Paige for a
couple of days as she couldn't keep her temperature & when we finally got to hold her
it was only for about 5 minutes or so. The only thing was she had no muscle tone & was
very floppy also she could not suck at all so she had to be fed by a nasal gastric tube
down her nose into her tummy . Which meant we had to feed her every 2 hours.
The hospital took lots of blood tests and sent them to a different hospital but
the only trouble was the results came back normal so basically she puzzled
everyone none of the doctors knew what was wrong.Alicia - Paige was taken out of
the incubator at 4 weeks old and seemed to be doing fine one week later she took
a turn for the worst and had to be rushed back into the incubator on a high level
of oxygen and could not keep warm again.She also had a blood transfusion when
she was just 5 weeks old luckily she pulled through. The doctors also had to
send for a uk product licence for the special medication she had to have which was
( Abidec, Sodium Phosphate, Cholic Acid, Chenodeoxycholic Acid, Polycal,Ursodiocycholic Acid).
When Alicia - Paige was 7 weeks old they transferred her to Sheffield Childrens Hospital
we had only been there 4 hours and the specialist knew what was wrong.The thing
was the doctor said that she could live for week's month's or year's and that she had
an enlarged liver and they could not say how long she would live sadly we only had
Alicia - Paige for 4 months. she was only there for a short while then came back
to our hospital.
Alicia - Paige then came home at 12 weeks old when we noticed she was
having seizures. She also had Kanakion which is used for prevention & treatment
of bleeding resulting from Vitamin K defiency. Alicia - Paige spent more time in
hospital than what she did at home.
