PEROS, BERNE - FACILITIES

An open staircase leads from the sitting-room to the first floor. The bedrooms are a recent addition; this was a granary. We have retained the loft door which now opens onto the hallway. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and the other two have twin beds. The larger of these also has a cot and an optional folding bed.

There is a large shower-room on the first floor with shower, toilet, bidet, washbasin and baby-bath. On the ground floor there is a small shower-room with shower, toilet and washbasin.

Both the house and the adjacent barn, which we occasionally occupy, have private terraces. The terrace in front of the house leads to a secluded barbecue area in an attractively ruined stable. There is a table with chairs on the terrace and seating in secluded sunny and shady parts of the shared parts of the garden. There is a lot of wildlife, many types of pretty beetles, birds, butterflies and even deer.

The semi-wild garden is extensive and is being developed to include areas of woodland, wildflower meadow and shrub borders with a glade away from the house where children can play. There is also a sand-pit close to the house.

Peros is set in a small hamlet on a hillside with the small town of Berne nearby, approximately one kilometre away. It is halfway between Le Faouet and Plouay.

In Berne there is a good boucherie/charcuterie which sells a wide range of groceries, two boulangeries, one of which makes gorgeous cakes at the weekend, a tabac, hairdresser, garage and bars.

The nearest restaurant is within walking distance across the valley and there are others in Meslan. Plouay and the old market town of Le Faouet offer a wide range of facilities. The nearest indoor swimming pool is at Le Faouet, which is about ten minutes drive away, and at a similar distance there is the lake at Priziac which offers swimming and boating facilities with a small cafe.

The area is very popular with cyclists, some major competitions are centred on Plouay. Local footpaths are well signposted, the Scorff Valley is close offering woodland and riverside walks. The walled towns of Vannes and Concarneau and also Pont Aven, the Breton equivalent of St. Ives are in easy reach of Peros. There are many pleasant beaches along the coast. One of the nicest, also being our nearest, is the sandy Guidel Plage, which has a lifeguard and is only 40 minutes away.
