Taman Lembah Kiara (LK) is a gated 35-hectare park located at inner TTDI. It boasts a surface area of 97,000m2 water, the lake. This former secondary forest was home to many species of both flora and fauna. At times, eagles could be spotted soaring above trees at the forest behind it.

Suspension Bridge Rubberized Jogging Track
Jogging in this park has never been a hassle. The only flaw it has would be joggers being spoilt for choice with the many routes it offers and there are either fully rubberized or partially so. At the inner fringe of the park where the forest lies, a suspension bridge stretches the view at the third slope berm of LK. The bridge is the highlight and an icon of LK, spanning across a man-made waterfall that is running a thin line of stream. Talking about stream, several arterial streams lead to the impoundment of the lake. Being a well-planned park, there is also a retention pond connected by a spillway in the event of an overflow, to the lake. The retention pond doubles up as a boating place with an island landscape on normal days. This is a “smart park”, really.

Public Toilet at LK
The lake itself has much to talk about. There are many types of fishes and amphibians. Frogs, tortoises and terrapins; to name a few. To guarantee their survival, DBKL has taken care on the quality of water that flows into the lake. A layer of fiber called geosynthetics is used to filter silt from murky water, transported from upstream to this pond. Not too long ago, I’ve even spotted rabbits roaming around the park.

Monkeys are a common feature of LK. However, I see more people feeding fishes and tortoises than the primates. This could be attributed to their fierce and unfriendly nature. I heard they sometimes “bite the hands that feed them”. Monkeys are so human or is it the other way? Food for thought…

Parking should not be a problem as there are ample parking spaces inside and out of LK. However so, you may want to search in the nook and crannies of the area just to get the best spot nearest to you especially at peak hours when it is inundated with people. Many like to park near the public toilet for convenient sake. The public toilet in LK is well maintained. So, there should not be any complaints on dirty and stinking toilet with floors infested with flies (and maggots…eeeww!). Kudos to DBKL!

Near the toilet, there is also a warm-up and stretching area where newcomers often double it up as a gathering spot. It is also where families converge before saying adios after doing their runs. This is due to its strategic location at the main entrance of the park.

On weekends, LK is a hive of activities. People from all ages converge to have their own exercise. The elderly are often seen occupying an open area for Taiqi. This area is also rubberized, which youths use it on weekdays for a 3-on-3 soccer game. The jogging track is like a highway on weekdays where many joggers are seen doing their stint.

Of course, LK also offers a variety of family spots like wooden gazebos, picnic spots and friendly riverbanks. The landscape and rubberized track in LK is well kept except for sporadic damp and spoilt patches of rubber spots along the track.

Joggers have a choice to either run the loop around the lake which is about 1.1km or the bigger loop passing the suspension bridge and hilly terrain at 1.9km. There is also a hill run which is out of the internal loop of LK. The hill route begins at LK, traversing Jalan Abang Haji Openg (refer to Map 1) to a small local road connecting KLGCC. The slope from this point onwards is approximately 2km long and a tedious jog up. A complete lap for this hill run, returning to LK is approximately 7km. If you are thinking of a hill run, LK’s hill run is recommended. For your information, the park closes late. Because this is a gated park, you may need to enquire the closing time. We have yet to breach any alarm of the security guards since we never stretch our training till late nights.

Warm Up Area Fellowship Run with Gasing Group Pacesetter Members

To meet up with Pacesetter members, the best time would be on Tuesdays from 5.30pm onwards. That is the time when the Gasing Group gathers and does its fellowship run. As of July 2004, the Gasing Group has officially made every first Tuesday of the month as their fellowship run. Snacks and drinks would be served. A 5-minute warm up exercise normally preceeds the run. Sometimes, members from other area groups come to LK to support the fellowship run as well as to take the hill run challenge. The fellowship run usually wraps up with some bananas, drinks and light snacks. Or if you are thinking of something sweet, hop over to the nearby van for a bowl of Taufoofa will do.
