Alrighty, pretend it's pouring rain outside, lighting is flashing, and thunder is booming. You have lit some candles and boiled a hot cup of tea. What goes great with tea? You guessed it...Poetry! And, for your pleasure, here are some of my favourite poems (most of them are by Shel Silverstein...he's the best!). This page will be updated frequently, and poems will be added and taken away, so enjoy them while they last. Hope this inspires you to write some of your own...and reminds you of some memory pushed far into the back of your mind. Read on!
WHATIF
Last night, while I lay thinking here,
Some Whatifs crawled inside my ear
And pranced and partied all night long
And sang their same old Whatif song:
Whatif I'm dumb in school?
Whatif they've closed the pool?
Whatif I get beat up?
Whatif there's poison in my cup?
Whatif I start to cry?
Whatif I get sick and die?
Whatif I flunk that test?
Whatif green hair grows on my chest?
Whatif nobody likes me?
Whatif a bolt of lightning strikes me?
Whatif I don't grow taller?
Whatif my head starts getting smaller?
Whatif the fish won't bite?
Whatif the wind tears up my kite?
Whatif they start a war?
Whatif my parents get divorced?
Whatif the bus is late?
Whatif my teeth don't grow in straight?
Whatif I tear my pants?
Whatif I never learn to dance?
Everything seems swell, and then
The nightime Whatifs strike again!
WHAT DID?
What did the carrot say to the wheat?
"'Lettuce' rest, I'm feeling 'beet.'"
What did the paper say to the pen?
"I feel quite all 'write,' my friend."
What did the teapot say to the chalk?
Nothing, you silly...teapots can't talk!
