| Several swarms of European bees have made their homes in the old Tuart tree and several other places. These will be removed as they are an introduced species which invade the natural habitat of our native birds and are considered a danger to the general community. Council contractors are presently hand-spraying various weeds and grasses in an attempt to eradicate most of these plants - pelargoniums are a particular problem. The Friends of Periwinkle Bushland held a successful Weeding Day on Saturday September 7th 2002. The sap of the Geraldton Carnation (pictured) is extremely toxic, care should be taken when pulling out this weed. |
