Just down the road....around the bend,
Stands a majestic lighthouse...once a
sailor's best friend.
Proudly, she stands on that rocky shore,
Once a beacon of safety that ships dared not
ignore.
Light shining to sea on stormy night,
To guide the unwary and still the fright.
Made no difference to her from whence the
ships came;
In times of need, they were all the same.
Her message was plain..."There is danger
here;
Keep a safe distance and you have nothing to
fear."
If able to talk, she could tell many tales;
Going back to the times when ships carried
sails.
A secluded home for keeper and wife,
Away from the hassle of city life.
Then, a change in technology came about;
She was no longer needed, and the light was
turned out.
Monument to the past; alone at land's end.
Just down the road.....around the bend.
