| With only 20,000 miles on the odometer I knew it was time for something completely different. Dropping in a 3SGTE is by far the quickest and most cost effective way to convert a normally aspirated MR2 to a reliable turbo driver. This is proven, but did not quite appeal to me. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| In theory the 5SFE could produce some respectable numbers, it just needed a little help. The research began and the parts gathered. Many custom parts had to be fabricated. If this engine was going to make any real performance gains, the head would have to undergo some major changes. |

| The head was completely reworked. Oversized 3SGTE Ferra valves were installed as well as shimless buckets. Major porting and bench testing yielded a head that flowed as good if not better than a 3SGTE head. The stock ECU was not going to be able to keep up so an Autronic SMC was installed to handle the fuel and spark management. |

| Days after the engine was started my town was hit dead center by hurricane Ivan. A year later another direct hit by hurricane Dennis. Two hurricanes put the project on hold for a few years as a new house took priority over the MR2. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
