BUT, FIRST THINGS FIRST. THIS FIC IS DEDICATED (BESIDES MAMORU) TO REDROSE AND MY IMOUTO MEHG. <- THEY GAVE ME THE IDEA FOR THIS. OH! AND SPECIAL THANKS TO LAZ WHO HELPED ME SORT OUT SOME OF MY CRAZY THOUGHTS. Some Things Aren't Best Forgotten August 1: Serena held the photograph in her small hands as gently as she could. Heaving a great sigh of girlish proportions she blushed as she looked at the gray-blue eyes that stared back at her in a mysterious way. 'Damn he's hot,' she thought as she realized just how good he looked now that he had dyed his hair a light brown-red. She traced a finger softly against the pale contours of the face on the picture. Her eyes followed the movements of her hand right up to the moment they went over the inscription. Her eyes widened. She couldn't believe it! It wasn't just an autographed photo, *he* had written her a message too!! Pausing for a moment to show a great smile of gratitude at her silent on-looker, she turned anxious eyes back to the sleek handwriting. " 'Serena,' " it began... " 'If you can put your mind to it You can accomplish anything!! Gackt Camui.' " Setting the photograph softly on her desk, she pushed the chair back and ran up to the silent, yet pleased Mariko Watanabe. "Thank you soooo much!" She exclaimed as crushed the Japanese woman to herself. "You have no idea how much this means to me!!" Mariko coughed slightly at the pressure of the hug and Serena, noticing the now-paler Mariko, backed off slightly. "Suimasen, right?" Serena asked smiling as she tried to verify the correct use of the word. "Hai," she smiled back. "You know," Mariko began as she took a seat inside the artist's office. "For someone that listens to so much Japanese music, one would think you'd be better familiarized with the language." Serena grinned sheepishly. "I know. I'm a pathetic excuse for a fan, aren't I?" Mariko just laughed. "Although," Serena continued, "Darien is worse than me! I just got into it about two years ago, but he- he's been a fan of it since before we met! By the way," she asked as she pulled in her chair towards the desk so as to look closer at Mariko. "How were you able to get me the autographs to these pictures?" "That..." Mariko saw Serena's eyes become hopeful. "-Is a secret." Her face fell. "Mariko-chan, you're so mean!" She wailed. "Tell me," she batted her eyelashes. "Pretty please?" "That might work on your fiancé," Mariko stated matter- of-factly. "But it does nothing to me. Although, if it really means that much to you..." "It does! It does!" "Well, you remember I took a break from work due to my uncle's death and went back to Japan for the funeral, right?" Serena nodded. "Well when I was there, and after all the funeral arrangements were taken care of, I took a little time off to visit an old friend of mine that works at the Bayfm radio station and he told me about the bands that were going to be doing 'On Air' time all that week. And since he told me that he could ask to get autographs..." showing Serena an evil grin, she went on. "I took him up on his offer. Now," Mariko shook her head sadly. "If only Noriko Sakai would have been there. She's my current favorite singer." "I've heard some of her songs." Serena admitted. "I like her voice. It's very pretty." "Isn't it? I think her songs have beautiful lyrics." Mariko glanced out the window as she heard the gentle tapping of rain. "You know Serena, I never would have figured you a fan of J-rock. Although," she picked up the autographed photo, "I can certainly see why you like Gackt. He has good eyes." *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "Darien!!" Serena called as she opened the door to their apartment. Dropping the mail on the hallway's small table, she began to look inside each room. "Darien, are you here?" Silence. Heaving a sigh, she walked back into the bedroom and took off her shoes -replacing them with the bunny-slippers that Darien had given her for Christmas. Heading over to the closet, she took off her jacket and placed it on a hanger. Guiding her hands to the small of her back, her fingers fumbled with the zipper of her black skirt. Once loose, she let in fall to the floor, her hands starting to undo the buttons of her blouse. Taking it off, she stepped out of the skirt and bent over to lift it from the floor. The bedroom door creaked. Serena's alarmed blue eyes turned towards the entry, as her shaky hands pressed the clothes to her body in a protective manner. "D- Darien?" she whispered as she saw his grinning face. Her eyes began to slant with annoyance as her ears picked up his low chuckle -her arched brow beginning to twitch. However, when she caught the way his mirth-filled eyes took her in... All hell broke loose! Groaning in relived anger, her hand closed over the skirt and launched it his way, the blouse soon following in its direction. "ARGH!" she said as she stomped her foot and crossed her arms over her chest. "You almost gave me a heart attack!" Shaking his head softly, he walked over to her side and wrapped his arms around her bare waist. "I'm sorry." She knew he didn't mean it. "But why were you so scared? Who else but me is gonna come into this apartment?" "How should I know?! You could have been one of those crazy sex offenders that are wandering the streets of Philadel- phia at night. Like the ones they warn about in the news!" Darien's laughter echoed through the room. "Are you nuts? First they'd have to get through the building's front door!" She pursed her lips at him. "Don't laugh at me. You know how I mistrust the way other people lock that front door." "Well, you can sleep safe tonight knowing that no sex offender is going to attack you." "Oh, I don't know." Serena raised an eyebrow at him as she smiled. "You look kind of suspicious to me." "Really? In what way?" She thought about it for a second. "Well, you seem like someone that has devious thoughts in their head." "Wouldn't you," he countered back, "if your fiancé had been strip-teasing for your benefit?" Serena's jaw dropped. "I *WAS* NOT!" "Looked that way from the hallway." He stole a quick kiss. "But don't worry, even thought I'd love to take you up on your *generous* offer- " He quickly released her from his hold and ran to the door before she could hit him. "I'm hungry and some of the guys from the lab are going to stop by and drop off some notes for me. So... put some clothes on unless you want them to join in." The image of a blunt object kept resurfacing in her mind as his laughter slowly died down. Oh, but she'd get him back... *without* the need of violence. She'd seen the way he'd walked out and she'd take full advantage of that later that night. In the mean time, the situation called for comfortable clothes. *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* "So," Serena said as she walked into the living room with faded blue jeans and a red shirt on. "How was work at the lab?" "Same as usual. I haven't been able to get the results I need from the experiments." Darien sighed as she sat next to him. "And since I have to hand a progress report to Professor Wallis next weekend, I think I might have to start putting over time." She took a bite out of the sandwich she had brought with her. "Looks like we're both gonna be pretty busy for the next couple of weeks." "Yeah?" "Uhu. Since classes are going to be starting soon, I'm gonna have to balance work and school again. And it just so happened that Mrs. Payne decided to give me a big chance by letting me work with the representatives in the Evian ad. So, I have to come up with ideas quick." Serena took another bite. "The only good thing about this is that by having been hired at the company I interned, and working over the summer there, I earned extra merit points towards my mayor. I'm telling you, I can't wait until my senior year is over. I'll finally get my BFA!" "I know how you feel. Once this next year is over, I can start majoring in medicine." Serena smiled as she turned to look at him. "Yeah... but while you'll still be in college, I'm gonna be a graduated professional." Darien's eyes lowered to her full lips and grinned. "What?" she asked as she tried to understand why he was looking at her that way. "Do I have something on my face?" Her hand rose to wipe away her mouth when his fingers closed over her wrist, stopping her actions. "No." Darien shook his head. "Let me." And he lowered his head slowly towards hers, his tongue slipping out of his lips and licking the drop of mustard that had fallen on the corner of her mouth. The kiss was inevitable, especially after all the tension that had been built up earlier. That slow, torturous contact was filled with pent up passion. And as Serena felt his cold hands on her warm skin, the twelve months they'd have to wait to become legally one seemed like an eternity. Darien smiled down at her momentarily, his silky black bangs grazing her forehead. "You know," he began even as he took off her shirt. "We really shouldn't be doing this on the couch." "Oh come on!" Serena bent her leg and situated it between his. "Where's your sense of adventure?" He groaned. "You really shouldn't have done that!" "Rea- AH!" she squealed as Darien's tongue mercilessly traced her jaw, causing a tingling feeling to creep up her spine. God, how she wanted him to stop teasing her! Darien's lips neared her ear and whispered softly. "You owed me for that little scene in the bedroom." And getting off of a dazed Serena, he grabbed the discarded shirt and placed it back on her. Once he was certain she looked decent, he kissed her again and headed to the front door. Apparently, Serena noticed, the doorbell had rung while they had been *thinking* of other things. Blushing furiously when she remembered what Darien had told her before he left to greet his buddies, she came to a decision. She might not have had much resolve moments ago, but now Darien would be forced to remember that in games of superiority he would always be bound to lose. Getting up off the couch, Serena took her plates to the kitchen and washed them. Then, heading over to the bedroom, she grabbed a pillow and some sheets. Staking them into a neat pile, she waited until the front door closed. Grabbing the bundle, she headed to the bedroom's door and came face to face with Darien. "What are you doing?" he asked once he saw what she was carrying. "Aren't you going to sleep here tonight?" Her smile broadened. "I am," she stated. "You're not." And dumping the pillow and sheets on his arms, she took his hands in hers and pressed them together. "By the way... you'd better start getting acquainted with those hands, because tonight, that'll all you're getting." And grabbing the handle on the door, she closed it shut. But not before noticing the look of shock and understanding that flickered in the depths of Darien's deep-blue eyes. She knew he had gotten her message, loud and clear. Part 2 Coming To You Soon...
