Growing up with both of my parents being in sales has actually taught me a lot. They've both had their ups and downs and it took both of them along time to get where they are today. Even though my dad is in a "family business" doesn't necessarily mean it's easy. He really has had to work hard, and he told me his job doesn't effect him, I agree with him, but I also don't.... I think it has. Just not as much as it did to Willy Loman in Death of a Salesman, even my mom has bad days or bad sales.. One day she'll have none and the next she will have four, and the same with my dad. It's a tough, cut-throat business. Like my father explained to me it is very competive out there, and a person really has to know what they are talking about. I think Willy was stuck in the past and wasn't up to date with what was going on in the world, and that hurt him a lot. I feel what happened to Willy can happen to anyone, no matter what kind of job it is. I feel today it's a lot harder than it was back then. After growing up with both my parents being in sales I know for sure I will never go into that. I don't want to deal with the pressure and having to meet a quota, and needing to sell a certain something, being plastics, a house, a car, health insurance, whatever it may be. It's just something not for me. |
