Hayabusa: Eagle Shrine

MECHA MADNESS

Eagle is a complete prince. He's gentlemanly, self-sacrificing, loyal, fearless and loving. But upon closer inspection, I found my golden boy to have one sad personality flaw.

He's hopelessly reckless. Especially with machines.

I love the boy, but he really has to learn to take better care of his mecha. In the anime, he ran the poor machine ragged, flying it to battle after battle when he could have taken his whole ship, the NSX, and just blown everyone out of the sky. And then in the end, he broke it into pieces trying to rescue Lantis. In the manga, he short-circuited it, and then he took it into another dimension to battle and in the end, he left it behind *entirely*.

Poor FTO. It was always so faithful, too. Zazu must have nearly hung himself when he found out; he loved that mecha like a girlfriend. ^^;

The NSX was better off, but only because it's practically indestructible. Despite that, Eagle managed to short out the main controls as well, driving it straight into the Paths of the Chizeta and Fahren flagships, holding them immobile. It was a brilliant maneuver, but he practically destroyed the directional controls...and himself as well, seeing as he was the one powering them with his own mind when he rammed the other two.

Other people's things don't fare much better. Geo in particular has suffered most at Eagle's over-generous hands. Eagle gives his candy to Hikaru in the anime. In the manga, Eagle borrows his bike...and then just *gives* it to Lantis, so Lantis can get to Cephiro faster. Later on, to prevent Geo from going after him during a battle (yes, in the FTO again), he cripples Geo's own mecha, the GTO.

Now is that any way for a Supreme Flight Commander to behave? It's a wonder he hasn't been bawled out by his father before now. But perhaps it's only natural. After all, genius and charisma notwithstanding, Eagle *is* still just a teenager.
