Welcome everyone to a world were monsters and giants hunt demigods, Kronos is rising and  Gaea, the Earth Mother, is awakening. The world's only hope for survival is a young boy, Percy Jackson, the son of Poseidon and a young girl, Annabeth Chase, daughter of Athena. Who Is Percy Jackson?

Perseus "Percy" Jackson is the title character and narrator of Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson & the Olympians series and a protagonist in the sequel series The Heroes of Olympus, which are part of the Camp Half-Blood chronicles.

Character[edit]

Percy Jackson begins the series as a 12 year-old boy who has been expelled from every school he has ever attended. Suffering from ADHD and dyslexia, he is a demigod who moves between the modern world of the US and the world of Greek mythology.

Percy's father is Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. Initially, Percy resented his father, feeling as if he were abandoned, but as he sees more of his father, they form a close bond. He has a half-brother named Tyson, a cyclops. At first, Percy was ashamed to have a monster as a brother, but he later grew fond of the cyclops after the adventures they had together. It was revealed later that Tyson prayed for a friend to his father, and so Poseidon sent him Percy. He is also related to Frank Zhang, as Frank's maternal ancestors link him to Poseidon.

Description[edit]

Percy is described as handsome, with jet black hair and bright sea green eyes. Sally (Percy's mother) had once said that Percy looked exactly like his father, Poseidon.

Personality[edit]

A natural leader, he is brave, spirited, and willing to risk his life for those he cares about. His sense of humor is sarcastic and intelligent, and his demeanor is laid-back. While he can be intelligent at times, Percy can act unintelligent and absent minded. His prowess has earned him the respect of all Olympians, including Artemis, who dislikes men; Dionysus, who dislikes heroes; and Hades, who dislikes humans.

Some of Percy's friends are misfits and outcasts with a few exceptions, and his "fatal flaw", according to Athena, is excessive personal loyalty. She says that he would risk the world and even his own life to save a loved one, or even a stranger. Kronos exploited this trait in Percy Jackson & the Olympians by putting his friends in peril so that Percy would try to save them and be killed in the process. In The Son of Neptune, Mars tells Frank that he believes this loyalty could hinder the completion of the Prophecy of Seven, but Hera states that his fatal flaw will keep the seven together. Hera also mentions that when a daughter of Athena, such as Annabeth, comes to Rome, it will cause trouble.

Abilities[edit]

Like most demigods, Percy has ADHD and dyslexia, the former because of his natural battle instincts, and the latter because his brain is meant to understand Ancient Greek and not English. Percy has limited clairvoyance because of his father's unpredictable nature. Sometimes in his visions, Percy is another person, such as Heracles. He has a Greek, unpredictable, singular fighting style and is an expert swordsman. After bathing in the River Styx, Percy was given the curse of Achilles, which he loses when it is swept away in the Little Tiber. In addition, he has an empathy link with his satyr guardian Grover.

Being a son of Poseidon, one of the "Big Three" gods (the others being Zeus and Hades), Percy is more powerful than most of the other children of gods, and he has a degree of divine authority over his father's domains and subjects. Because he is the son of the god of the sea, Percy is given several water-induced abilities, such as hydrokinesis, a disproportionate amount of superhuman clarity, strength, speed, agility, and endurance in the water, water propulsion, breathing underwater, immunity in water, water solidification, sailing skills, communication with marine animals, aerokinesis of hurricanes and water-related storms, cryokinesis, heat resistance, and healing when in contact with water.

Magical items[edit]

Percy's main weapon is Anaklusmos, which is the Greek word for Riptide. It is made of celestial bronze and was given to him by Chiron. He first used it against Mrs. Dodds, his pre-algebra teacher, when she turned into a Fury and attacked him. When not in sword form, Riptide appears as a ballpoint pen that writes with celestial bronze ink. It was a weapon of Heracles, who received it from Zoë Nightshade(who was a child of altls. She later was a hunter of articles using words like thee and thy). He also uses javelins with a grappling hook and an explosive setting on occasion.

Percy has several magical items from battles against monsters. The first of these is the horn of the Minotaur, which he obtained after killing the beast, assuming that it had killed his mother. Another is the head of Medusa, which he cut off after killing it. He gave it to his mother, who used its petrifying power to turn her abusive husband Gabe to stone. When he killed the Nemean Lion, Percy cut off its pelt but threw it in the sea later on as an offering to Poseidon.

Magical pets and companions[edit]

Percy has two magical pets and companions. The first is Blackjack, a Pegasus that Percy liberated in The Sea of Monsters. Since then, Blackjack has become his personal steed and the two can speak to each other, Blackjack repeatedly has to save Percy's life. Blackjack is quite fond of sugar cubes and doughnuts. The second is Mrs. O'Leary, a pet hellhound that he received from Daedalus (Quintus in the first chapters) before the inventor died in The Battle of the Labyrinth. He refers to Mrs. O'Leary as his "dog". The mist somehow causes her to appear as a poodle to mortals.

The Lightning Thief is the first book in the series and was released on June 28, 2005.

One day after returning home from his boarding school, Percy and his mother Sally Jackson, travel to a beach in Montauk. After a series of harrowing incidents, Percy finds out that he is a demigod son of Poseidon the Greek god of water and that the gods are accusing him of stealing Zeus' master lightning bolt. To clear his name and save the world from another war between the Olympian gods, he sets out to find the real thief and retrieve the lightning bolt. Thus Percy Jackson and his companions, a satyr named Grover Underwood and Annabeth Chase, a daughter of Athena, start on a journey to the underworld, facing numerous mythological monsters on the way. After discovering Hades to be a victim of theft as well, they escape and retrieve the stolen goods from Ares. In the end, they learn that Luke Castellan, a camper of Camp Half Blood, and son of Hermes, was the real thief and had stolen the bolt to allow Kronos the king of the titans a chance to rise again, after being defeated by Zeus, Posiedon, and Hades thousands of years ago.

The book was adapted into a film by Chris Columbus and 20th Century Fox, under the title Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief on February 12, 2010.

The Sea of Monsters

The Sea of Monsters is the second installment in the series, released on April 1, 2006.

Grover has left on a quest to find Pan yet Percy sees him in a dream, distressed over a deadly cyclops' attraction to him. Percy then finds out that he has a half-brother named Tyson, a cyclops, and that Chiron, the head camp instructor, is accused of poisoning Thalia's tree, which protects the camp's borders from monster attacks, and banned from the camp. The quest to find the Golden Fleece and save the tree is won by Clarisse La Rue, daughter of Ares, in a chariot race, although Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson sneak off to find both Grover and the fleece. After encountering the Sirens and Circe, Annabeth and Percy reach the cyclops' cave. They rescue Grover and Clarisse, and Tyson helps defeats the cyclops. They recover the Fleece located outside the cave and head to Miami. Clarisse returns to camp and the others are captured by Luke. They are about to be killed when Chiron and other centaurs rescue them and take them back to camp. The healing power of the Fleece restores the tree and revives Thalia.

The book was adapted into a film by Thor Freudenthal and 20th Century Fox, under the title Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Sea of Monsters. It was released on August 7, 2013.

The Titan's Curse

Main article: The Titan's Curse

The Titan's Curse is the third installment in the series. It was released on May 1, 2007.

On a mission to rescue half-bloods Bianca and Nico di Angelo, who are children of Hades; Percy, Annabeth, Thalia and Grover are attacked by a Manticore but are rescued by the goddess Artemis and her Hunters. However, Annabeth falls over a cliff as she attempts to defeat the monster. Later, Artemis is captured by Luke's army while on the hunt for the Ophiotaurus, a cow-serpent monster that was foretold to bring the downfall of Olympus when its entrails are sacrificed to a fire. Her lieutenant Zoe Nightshade, daughter of Atlas leads Bianca, Thalia and Grover on a quest to save her. Percy, who was not invited to join the party, follows them and eventually joins their group. They find Annabeth holding up the sky meant for Atlas, and Artemis chained nearby, and she soon takes the sky away from Annabeth, Percy then takes it from Artemis and then they trick Atlas into his original position again. Thalia replaces Zoe after Zoe died as Artemis' lieutenant during the gods' summit. Thalia's induction as a lieutenant of Artemis ensures that she never reaches 16, thus escaping the great prophecy and leaving Percy to fulfill it. They return to camp and Percy informs Nico about Bianca's death during the journey. Nico blames Percy of failing to protect her and runs away from camp. The story ends with Percy learning that Hades is Nico's father.

The Battle of the Labyrinth is the fourth installment in the series. It was released on May 6, 2008.

After being attacked by monsters, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood and learns about the labyrinth. During a war game, Annabeth and Percy find an entrance into the Labyrinth in camp. Percy soon learns that Luke will use the entrance to lead his army through the Labyrinth straight into the heart of camp. Annabeth is chosen to lead a quest to prevent it, and chooses to bring Tyson,Percy, and Grover, even though it was traditional to bring only 2 companions on a quest, as explained by Chiron. While in the Labyrinth, Percy and Annabeth become separated from Grover and Tyson. They encounter Nico, who begins to forgive Percy. Percy and Annabeth arrive under Mount St. Helens, where Annabeth kisses Percy. Percy accidentally causes St. Helens to erupt and washes ashore on Calypso's Island. He returns, rather than staying with her, stating that she would always be his biggest "what-if". Then he and Annabeth recruit Rachel Dare to be a guide in the Labyrinth, finding her sight and knowledge useful for the quest. Daedalus is shown to be alive and to have given Ariadne's string to Luke. They find Grover and Tyson and discover Pan, and Grover tells him that he must return to the world. But, Pan says that he cannot come and before dying tells Grover to spread the word that Great God Pan has died. Grover does what he is told. Percy also finds Luke's body in Kronos' coffin, saying that there was a hole where Luke's heart should have been. After Pan's warning, they flee to camp, trying to stop the invasion. Kronos' forces attack the camp but are defeated. After the battle, Daedalus sacrifices himself to destroy the Labyrinth, as its tied to his lifeforce of the time.

The Last Olympian

Main article: The Last Olympian

The Last Olympian, the fifth and final book in the Percy Jackson series, was released on May 5, 2009.

Percy Jackson learns that Kronos' forces are preparing to attack Olympus. Seeking to defeat Kronos, Percy bathes in the River Styx, making his body invulnerable except one small chosen part of his body (the small of his back). Kronos leads a siege of New York City and puts its citizens to sleep. Percy leads the campers, Hunters, nature spirits, and centaurs to protect Mount Olympus from Kronos and his forces. While they protect Olympus, the gods hold down the monster Typhon as he makes his way to New York. Kronos, possessing Luke's body, forces his way into Olympus and battles Percy in Olympus' throne room. Typhon reaches New York but is defeated after the arrival of Poseidon's forces. Luke is able to overcome Kronos. Percy gives him Annabeth's knife, and Luke stabs himself in his mortal spot (as he also was invulnerable from bathing in the River Styx) to temporarily destroy Kronos and save Mount Olympus. The gods reward Percy and his friends, and offer him immortality. He rejects the offer, but they grant him one request. He requests the gods to claim all their children and to have cabins for all the gods, including the minor ones. Rachel Elizabeth Dare becomes the Oracle and recites the next great prophecy. At the end Percy and Annabeth earnestly start their relationship.

The Lost Hero, the first book in the Heroes of Olympus series, was released on October 12, 2010.

Prophecy

" Child of Lightning, beware the earth

The giant's revenge, the seven shall birth

The forge and dove shall break the cage

And death unleashed through Hera's rage."

Synopsis

Jason has no memory of his identity or how he came to be on the bus with a group taking a field trip to the Grand Canyon. Leo claims to be his best friend and Piper claims to be his girlfriend. At the Grand Canyon, a horde of Venti attacks the three and their supervising teacher, Coach Gleeson Hedge, who reveals himself to be a Satyr and confronts the Venti. Jason is able to defeat the Venti's helpers, but the Venti capture Coach Hedge and flee. Two strangers arrive in a flying chariot: Annabeth (daughter of Athena) and Butch (son of Iris). Annabeth is hostile towards Jason when they meet, because she had a vision in which Hera gave her a clue concerning the whereabouts of her missing boyfriend, Percy Jackson, saying that, to find Percy, she had to find the guy with one shoe (Jason lost a shoe in the fight), but Percy was not there when she arrived.

Jason, Piper, and Leo are taken to Camp Half Blood and are informed that they are demigods, children of the ancient Greek gods. Leo and Piper are claimed by their godly parents, Hephaestus and Aphrodite respectively. Piper also forms a rivalry with Drew, the bossy senior counselor of her cabin. Jason is revealed to be a son of Zeus after he summons his power to call lightning. He is also revealed to be the brother of Thalia, a main character from the Percy Jackson series. Jason remembers Thalia when he sees a picture of her in Zeus's cabin and learns that Hera/Juno has stolen his memories. Piper is jealous of Thalia at first, until she realizes that Thalia is Jason's biological sister. Annabeth takes Jason to see a son of Hypnos (god of sleep) to try to find some of his memories through sleep. The son of Hypnos explains to him the difference between the gods' Greek and Roman forms. Less than a day later, the three new demigods are sent on an urgent quest to rescue Hera, who has been kidnapped by a giant. The three set off on the back of a giant robotic dragon, Festus (in Latin, Festus means "happy") that Leo finds and repairs. Along the way, Jason, Piper and Leo meet and confront Boreas, three Cyclops, Medea, King Midas, King Lycaon and his pack of Werewolves, and Aeolus. They discover that Hera's kidnappers are Gaea's underlings and that she seeks to overthrow the Olympians.

They save Piper's father (Tristan McLean, a movie star), whom Enceladus has held ransom, and release Hera from her prison. They temporarily stall Gaea's plans, but the newly risen Porphyrion is able to escape. After the battle, they return to camp, where Leo starts building the Argo 2,the flying ship for their next mission. Piper also overthrows Drew as senior counselor and gains new-found self-confidence. After part of his memory returns, Jason realizes that he is from the Roman counterpart to Camp Half-Blood called Camp Jupiter. He remembers a girl named Reyna and that Hera switched his place with Percy Jackson, who is now at Camp Jupiter with no memory of his life at Camp Half-Blood.

The Son of Neptune

Main article: The Son of Neptune

The Son of Neptune, the second book in the Heroes of Olympus series, was released on October 4, 2011.

Prophecy

"Go to Alaska.

Find Thanatos and free him.

Come back by sundown on June twenty-fourth or die."

Synopsis[edit]

The Son of Neptune opens with Percy Jackson being chased by two gorgons, Stheno and Euryale, who hate him for killing their sister Medusa. They reveal that they're working for Gaea. While making his escape, Percy runs into an old woman named June, who reveals herself to be Juno (Hera) and gives him a choice: do her a favor or live safely under the sea while everybody and everything is destroyed. As the favor, Percy carries her across the Little Tiber, which is a powerful river. In the process, he loses his invincibility from the River Styx. When he reaches his destination, he meets Hazel Levesque, a daughter of Pluto, and Frank Zhang, a son of Mars. Percy saves Frank from the Gorgons by drowning them.

Percy is taken into the camp after Juno introduces him to Camp Jupiter. Reyna seems to recognize him, but refuses to acknowledge him. She and her sister lost their home during Percy's attack (in Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters). She sends Percy and Hazel to Octavian, the camp augur, to determine whether or not he's fit to join the legion. Along the way, Lares, the camp's ancestral spirits, call him Graceus, or "Greek," worries Hazel. When they reach Jupiter's temple, Octavian is cutting teddy bears open and reading the stuffing. Octavian threatens Hazel by telling her that if she doesn't vote for him, he'll reveal her secret. He declares good omens, and Hazel and Percy go to the temples, where they meet Nico di Angelo, a main character from the Percy Jackson series. He knows Percy, but claims he does not recognize him. Meanwhile, Frank is organizing weaponry when a Lare appears and tells him he knows about his stick and his birth. Frank runs off to find Hazel and Percy. He takes Percy to the baths while Hazel and Nico talk. Hazel reveals that she's from the 1940s and has a blackout. She realizes that she's late for the role call, so she and Nico rush to line up.

During war games, a Camp Jupiter activity, Percy impresses everyone with his battle skills and instincts, even though they are not Roman tactics and are more Greek-style. After the games, Octavian deliberately hurts a girl (Gwen). She is severely injured and dies, only to come back to life a few moments later. Mars, the god of war, appears and informs the campers that "death has been chained" and claims Frank Zhang as his son. Mars insists that Percy and Frank must go on a quest to free Thanatos, the god of death. He has been captured in Alaska and is no longer able to keep mortals dead. Frank requests that Hazel accompany him on the quest, and they set off towards Alaska.

While travelling on their quest, Percy struggles to regain his memory. Time and time again, he recalls things but is never able to determine from where. His only clear memory is of a girl named Annabeth. Hazel reveals that she died long ago, but her half-brother Nico Di Angelo, son of Hades, saved her from the Underworld. Frank tells the other two that he was given a piece of wood that is tied to his life. If the wood burns completely, he will die. After they experience many events and monsters (including basilisks, giants, and an unexpected meeting with the Amazons), they meet Reyna's sister, who helps them and gives Hazel a powerful horse named Arion, who only eats gold and is a son of Neptune. They finally arrive in Alaska, where they find Thanatos in chains, which can only be broken by the fire of life (referring to the piece of wood tied to Frank's life). Percy defends Frank while he melts Thanatos' chains with his burning stick, losing more and more of his life. Hazel attacks Alcyoneus, the giant born to oppose Pluto. Thanatos is eventually freed and with the help of Hazel's horse, Arion, and they drag the giant out of its land of Alaska to Canada where it is able to be killed.

Percy regains his memory as they race back to Camp Jupiter. Knowing that the camp is under attack, Percy takes charge and leads the Romans into battle with the help of some of his old friends from Camp Half-Blood and the Amazons. The morale of the Romans is recharged after they discover that Percy recovered the camp's lost standard, which had been missing for years. Percy challenges the giant, Polybotes (the giant born to oppose Neptune), to a duel and calls to Terminus, the Roman border god, to help him defeat the giant. Percy has been told that only when gods and demigods work together can the giants be defeated. He defeats Polybotes by using the head of Terminus' statue as a weapon. The camp names him a praetor, a leader of the Roman camp. The Greek demigods from Camp Half-Blood appear in the flying ship Argo II sailing towards the camp. The Romans argue over attacking the ship. As praetor, Percy orders them to hold their fire. If the Greeks attack, he would be to blame, but he is not worried. With his arms around Frank and Hazel, he approaches his "other family".

The Mark of Athena

Main article: The Mark of Athena

The Mark of Athena, the third book in the Heroes of Olympus series, was released on October 2, 2012.

Prophecy

"Wisdom's daughter walks alone

The Mark of Athena burns through Rome,

Twins snuff out the angel's breath

Who holds the key to endless death,

Giants' bane stands gold and pale

Won through pain from a woven jail."

Synopsis

After sending Leo's video to Camp Jupiter, Argo II prepares to land on the Roman camp's border, but Terminus, the god of borders, stops them, for no weapons are allowed inside. It is then decided to let the ship stay in the air while Annabeth, Leo, Piper, and Jason meet the Roman campers. Percy Jackson, together with Hazel and Frank, welcomes the Greek demigods and Coach Hedge. They hold a reunion and, during the conversations, Ella, the harpy, speaks about a prophecy that refers to Annabeth's quest for the Mark of Athena. Piper uses her charmspeak in order to divert the topic. While Jason gives Piper a tour of the camp, Reyna talks to Annabeth alone.

During their conversation, the Argo II, which is controlled by Leo Valdez (who was possessed by Eidolons), fires at Camp Jupiter. The Romans defend their bases, and Annabeth, Piper, Jason, and Percy rush inside the Argo II to stop Leo from firing on the campaign. They start to leave the camp, while Hazel and Frank delay the Roman campers. The Argo II becomes damaged and, when Leo lands for repairs, they encounter Echo and Narcissus. They are told that they have to search for the Mark of Athena to bring the Romans and the Greeks together.

During their journey, they meet Phorcys and Keto. The seven quickly leave for Charleston. Annabeth, Piper, and Hazel go to Battery Park to find a mysterious ghost, which happens to be Aphrodite. Jason, Leo, and Frank go to a museum in Fort Sumter. Only the girls' story is told. Aphrodite tells them about their love lives and the other Olympians that are suffering from confusion about their Roman or Greek identities. After their talk, the angry Romans arrive, and war breaks out. Annabeth meets Reyna, who is in Fort Sumter to retrieve a map which will save her friends. Reyna begs Annabeth to come with her and die a painful death to save her camp, but Annabeth tells Reyna that she will only follow the mark.

The seven reach the ship and leave safely to go to Chiron's brothers, who live in the sea. During the ride, they are attacked by a shrimp monster. Leo, Frank, and Hazel go underwater and find icthyocentaurs, Chiron's brothers, who find the three's story interesting and speed their way to Rome. They meet Hercules near the pillars, at the entrance to Rome, and Piper and Jason get the second horn of , the bull-headed river god. Even though it was Hercules who ordered them to cut it off, Piper decides that Hercules does not deserve the horn and keeps it for herself. She brings forth a pile of food, and Hercules falls.

The seven cross the pillars and sail into Rome. Annabeth has to find the Athena Parthenos by following the Mark of Athena and battle its guardian Arachne. Percy, Jason, and Piper travel into an underground area and battle the twin giants, Otis and Ephialtes, the anti-Dionysus. Frank, Hazel, and Leo travel in search of Nico, and find Archimedes' scrolls on spheres. In the end, Annabeth outwits Arachne by tricking her into weaving her own trap. Percy and Jason battle the giants and, with very little (emphasis on "very little") help from Dionysus's Roman counterpart, Bacchus, they rescue Nico, and Bacchus defeats Otis and Ephialtes by throwing a pinecone into their eye.

Frank, Hazel, and Leo battle the Eidolons and rescue Archimedes' scrolls and one of his spheres. They meet, and Annabeth secures the Athena Parthenos. However, Arachne pulls Annabeth into Tartarus by some spider silk as the statue is lifted onto their ship. Percy follows Annabeth by not releasing the line with which he was trying to pull her up. After Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus, the remaining five prophecy demigods, Coach Hedge, and Nico conduct a meeting. Nico says Percy told him to lead the demigods to the Doors of Death, and he and Annabeth would meet them at the end of Tartarus on the Doors' other side. Nico and Hazel both say they are fairly sure Percy and Annabeth are not dead yet. The book closes with Leo telling Festus the Dragon figurehead to set sail: they have friends to save.

The House of Hades[edit]

Main article: The House of Hades

The House of Hades, the fourth book in the Heroes of Olympus series, was released on October 8, 2013.

Synopsis[edit]

Percy and Annabeth are falling towards Tartarus. Shortly after arriving in Tartarus, Annabeth and Percy find the River of Fire, The Phlegathon, and drink from it, which makes them immune to the harsh Tartarus environment, albeit temporarily. Annabeth and Percy follow some Empousai, including Kelli (originally seen in Battle of the Labyrinth), to try and find the Doors of Death. Percy and Annabeth eventually are spotted and almost killed, until Bob (the name to which Percy changed Iapetus's name in The Demigod Files: The Sword of Hades when he dragged Iapetus—a Titan—through the River Lethe) comes and helps vanquish them. Bob leads them to The Shrine of Hermes, where Annabeth successfully sends a message back to Camp Half-Blood. Bob joins them on their journey to the heart of Tartarus.

Annabeth and Percy meet Nyx (Night) in Tartarus. Annabeth devises a plan to trick Nyx and her children into blinding each other with darkness, giving Annabeth and Percy time to flee into the Mansion of Night, where they meet up with Bob at the Doors of Death. Annabeth, Percy, Bob and Small Bob (Bob's new-found pet cat, first seen in The Titan's Curse at the Museum of Natural History) then head directly towards the Doors of Death. As the group trudges amidst the colossal number of monsters, they encounter Hyperion and Krios, who are guarding the Doors of Death. Just as they are about to cut the chains securing the Doors, Tartarus appears in person, destroys the Titans, and removes the Death Mist from Percy and Annabeth. Percy is traumatised and loses all will to fight, while Annabeth is void of ideas. Bob challenges Tartarus and, just when he begins to lose the battle, Damasen charges into the battle with his drakon, declaring that he has decided to choose his own fate. With Damasen holding off Tartarus and Bob securing the Doors of Death, Percy and Annabeth finally escape Tartarus, but not before Bob says, "Tell the sun and stars hello for me"

In the mortal world, the crew is joined by Reyna, who has made it to the ship, losing her pegasus Scipio in the process. While discussing their next course of action, the crew decides that the Athena Parthenos must be transported to Camp Half-Blood, and they must head towards Athens to face the giants. With only two weeks left before the revival of Gaea at the Feast of Spes, the crew is unable to decide where to go. After much debate, Nico volunteers to shadow-travel with Reyna and Coach Hedge back to Camp Half-Blood, while the crew can head towards Greece. The book concludes with Percy saying to the stars, "Bob says hello."

The Blood of Olympus[edit]

The Blood of Olympus, the fifth and final book in the Heroes of Olympus series, is set for release on October 7, 2014.[2] Jason Grace and, unlike in past books, Nico di Angelo will both have chapters written from their perspectives.[3]

Synopsis[edit]

The seven united Greek and Roman demigods of the Argo II crew journey to Athens in a final attempt to prevent Gaea from awakening and destroying the earth, while Reyna, Nico, and Coach Hedge travel with the Athena Parthenos in tow to Camp Half-Blood, hoping to prevent war between the massed groups of Greek and Roman demigods, and to unite the groups. Gaea will rise if two of the seven on the quest are sacrificed to her during the Feast of Spes, and her children, the powerful, already risen giants, can only be defeated by demigods and gods working together. With the Greek and Roman aspects of the gods warring within themselves, the gods are incapacitated, yet the questing demigods must somehow save the planet and all who live on it from the earth mother herself. The Blood of Olympus will fulfill the following lines of the prophecy: 'To storm or fire the world must fall. An oath to keep with a final breath...' The House of Hades gives a possible hint to the meaning of the third line of the prophecy (an oath to keep with a final breath) when Leo swears on the river Styx to free Calypso from Ogygia.
