July 2001
In July 2001, Mandy and I flew from Rhoose airport (Cardiff U.K) to the Greek Island of Crete. Our base for our stay in Crete was the small town of Gouves. Gouves is a small holiday resort just East of Heraklion. We stayed at the Marie Kelly apartments
One of our favourite Taverna's was the Oasis in Gouves. The food was wonderful and the staff were so friendly.
Gouves Links
We took a trip to Spinalonga, an infamous Island origanaly fortiefied by the Venetians in1579. Later it became a notorius as it was an exile center for lepers until 1957. We also visited the town of Elounda, famous for the BBC TV series "Who pays the Ferrymann".
We finished off our tour of Eastern Crete with a visit to the port of Agios Nicklaos, where we took the chance to buy our friend Sean, a really "Classy" T-shirt.
