Esoteric Skills

People in the world of the White City pick up a number of strange skills which, while not explicitly magical are based on the more unusual aspects of the world of the White City. These are the Esoteric Skills, which are available to Sorcerers of appropriate styles, and Priests and Devotees of appropriate gods.

General Skills

Devotee (1, One Rank)
Although not ordained, you are a devotee of a particular God (or set of powers). This gives you access to the appropriate Esoteric Skills. Powers of the appropriate flavour are more inclined to treat you well. If you subsequently become Ordained you may do so for only 5XP

Esoteric Skills

A Taste For Blood (5, One Rank)
Blood Mages, Children of the Vine, Priests and Devotees of the Old Powers only. You have a taste for blood, you are, shall we say, a conniseur. You can identify similarities between blood you have tasted. This can be very specific. You can tell age, gender, lineage (mundane and esoteric). Somebody with whom you are intimately familiar (that is to say, somebody you know well, somebody whose blood you have tasted, or somebody you've had sex with) you can identify personally. Using this skill on Shattered Blood costs you a Psyche hit.

The Scent of Ashes (5, One Rank)
Ash Mages, the Ashen Blooded, Priests and Devotees of the Burned Lords only. You can tell when somebody is near death. This applies to the ill, the injured and the "about to embark on a terminally foolish course of action". It's mostly flavour, and mostly something you're likely to be able to tell anyway. When somebody is on their "slow count to sixty", you can always tell exactly how far along they are.

The Clear Sight of the Light (15, One Rank)
Blind Priests, Devotees and Mages of Light only. Once per encounter you may ask, and be given, a true statement about the nature of a person, item or thing in your presence. The statement must be non-obvious, but does not have to be exhaustive. Sample statements could be "he is a murderer", "he is of noble blood, though he does not know it" or "she is a sorceress of great power". Note that this skill has tremendous power to be plot breaking, that's why it's fifteen points. Note further that information granted by this skill will be pertinent, if there is pertinent information to give. The best way for a GM to "nerf" this power is to make sure there is a lot of pertinent information about any individual they want to keep secrets.

Whispers of the Glass Tower (5, One Rank)
Glass Mages, The Shattered Blooded, Priests and Devotees of the Vitriarchs only. You may listen to the thoughts of madmen, provided they would be within normal earshot.

Feel The Breath (5, One Rank)
Wind Mages, Priests and Devotees of the Princes of Breath only. So long as there is a wind on your face, you may tell the direction in which a given (named or uniquely identified) person lies. You get no idea of distance, state of health or anything else.
