BRIEF HISTORY

The Royal Malaysian Customs Department is one of the oldest Customs station. In its early establishment, all customs administration was based in Pulau Pangkor under the state of Penang's administration ( Straits Settlement States ) and the Lumut Customs office was under the state of Perak's Customs administration ( Federated Malay States ). At that time , the collection of tax was under the law called Customs Duties which included eksport duty on agriculture produce, dried fish, animal skins and wolfram and import duty on opium.

The Pulau Pangkor and Lumut Customs administration was combined during the British Military Administration that during the re-organisation of the Department's administration in the year 1948, after the formation of the Federation of Malaya. The first office was located near a public jetty at Jalan Titi Panjang, Lumut. During this period, the Lumut Customs only performed control of import / export acitivities at private jetties and preventive activities at the Dindings district. Management of administration was handled at the Ipoh Customs office

On Mei 1989, the customs office moved from Jalan Titi Panajng to the present office. This move was done along with the development of the Manjung district. Concordant with the present development, the management and administration of the station also developed whereby earlier the station was headed by an Assistant Director of Customs and presently it is headed by a Senior Assistant Director of Customs.

At present, the Lumut station is entrusted to control all custom activities that is import / export activities, inland revenue and prevention. The area of control is also widen to cover the Manjung district and the Middle Perak district.
