About Me
My name is Zoe Jackson, and I was born on 14/4/72 in Usk, South Wales, but lived most of my life in Cwmbran, Gwent. I attended Croesyceiliog Comprehensive School in Cwmbran, Gwent, and left in 1988 with very little in the way of qualifications. I then had a series of dead end jobs, with few prospects. I moved to Swansea in 1990, and sometime later began work at the local cinema. There I met my husband Barry, and we married in 1994. We now have one daughter, Rowan.
Shortly after her birth, I decided that I wanted to re-enter education. In 1997 I began studying for a BA in Ancient History, at the University of Wales, Swansea, studying mainly Greek history and Egyptology, with some elective modules in medieval Welsh history. My favorite areas of study were; the legends of King Arthur and Welsh folklore; the Iliad of Homer; Philip and Alexander of Macedon; Greek Tragedy; the Histories of Herodotos; Fifth Century BC Athenian democracy; Egyptian Middle Kingdom Historical Texts; and of course, Egyptian Grammar. The subject of my dissertation was the function of Isis, Nephthys and Hathor in the Book of the Dead, which is posted on this site. I graduated in the summer of 2000 with a first class honours degree, of which I am justifiably proud.
I am now a research student at the same University, studying for the degree of PhD under the supervision of Professor Alan Lloyd, well-known author of the commentary to Herodotus Book II and contributor to the recently published "Oxford History of Ancient Egypt". The subject of my thesis is the role of the sky-goddess Nut in the Pyramid Texts. I also teach Classics and Archaeology at Gorseinon College, Swansea, and act as a Postgraduate Tutorial Assistant for Professor Lloyd, assisting in the teaching of First Year Undergraduates.
