Forever
Some
things last forever, others do not.
The
life span of a butterfly is measured in days
Yet
the time it takes light to reach,
Distant
galaxies is millions of years,
A glacier may take years to move a mile,
Days for a rose to succumb and die,
Empires have lasted for years and years,
Mountains carved by rivers, carried away,
By the sands of time,
Seasons change and time does not stop.
A
snap of the fingers lasts for a fraction of a second,
A touch for a minute, perhaps,
A kiss for hours, if you're lucky...
A match burns out too soon to know,
That a torch burns brightly forever,
That's what I will be, If you let me,
A
storm may blow the flame, almost off of it's base,
But
it will prevail,
A
torch will give you light when darkness abounds,
Illuminate,
and accompany you on your journey through time
The
only way to extinguish a torch's flame,
Is
to let it's fuel expire,
You
are my inspiration, you fuel me to burn,
Burn
as bright as the sun, or a guiding light,
Don't
let me go out and die,
For
I will never see your smile again.
