Maiden's Peak: Festival Park
Obvious exits:
East <E> leads to Maiden's Peak: Southern Entrance.
North <N> leads to Maiden's Peak: Lone Residentials.
Adrian arrives from Maiden's Peak: Lone Residentials.
Adrian has arrived.
Mikomi arrives from Maiden's Peak: Lone Residentials.
Mikomi has arrived.
Fair weather clouds sail across the blue sky, propelled by light breezes from the west. It's warm in the sun, cool in the shade, and the air is clear and dry. In the forest, the wind rustles the bright green leaves of trees and bushes and carries Oddish pollen, downy seeds, and the fragrance of wildflowers along with it. While at the coast, the ocean is a deep cool blue today, the waves lapping at the coast gently under the pleasant spring sky.
Dana arrives from Maiden's Peak: Lone Residentials.
Dana has arrived.
Wonderful weather makes for high spirits, and what could get more wonderful than this? A light breeze, warm sunshine, and a bright sun sprinkling upon the land. Everybody walks around with a light bounce in their step. Melissa Barlette, a teenager from Pewter City, is certainly no exception - her hair appears dark blonde in the sunlight, and it blows gently to the side. The few strands that do happen to come across her face are simply wiped off indifferently. The girl seems to be looking for somebody to battle. Somebody in particular... or..?
Yes, it is a wonderful day for a battle, a fact that is not lost to one Adrian Atkinson, who has just arrived on the scene. He appears to be looking for an opponent, his tournament pin clearly displayed on his shirt.
Melissa's tournament pin is also attached. It's absolutely perfectly placed - completely straight. The girl took a little time to make sure it was absolutely neat and clean. Perhaps overdoing a bit? That's of no importance, however. Melissa's eyes stray through the crowd, searching, searching. Her light blue eyes blink behind their glasses as her gaze lands upon Adrian. Though they are not close, the tournament pin is obvious enough. Still, the girl does not approach the boy. Her hands simply stick into her pockets, her teeth chomp down softly on her lower lip, and she gulps softly. How's the shy girl going to summon the courage to ask somebody for a battle?

Melissa's Pokeballs(#2641Ms)
>> Oo, Melissa looked at you. Why not write a book about her? <<
At about the same time Melissa sees Adrian, Adrian spots Melissa, as well, noticing the tournament pin she wears. A warm smile appears on Adrian's lips as he walks over to Melissa's location. "Excuse me, but I happened to notice you wearing a tournament pin," he says once he has closed the distance. "Care to have a battle?"
Acuario arrives from Maiden's Peak: Southern Entrance.
Acuario has arrived.
Melissa instantly blushes, turning her head to the side. Eep! She didn't even have to approach him! "I... um... I..." It's still difficult for her to be around boys that aren't her father or Wesley - her experiences with Sly haunt her even to this day. Paranoid, don't you think? Perhaps not. The teenager lifts her head slowly, giving Adrian a slight nod. "I... um, I'd... Yes, please." Gently, almost looking for comfort, her hand heads down to the pokeball containing her pokemon of choice. She removes the device, but she, of course, does not quite send out the creature. "Just... um... right here?" She gives a light gesture to nowhere in particular.
Springtime means pokemon love all around, soon babies will abound! (Saving)
Adrian gives Melissa a reassuring nod. "Yes, here would be just fine," he says, his right hand plucking a pokeball from his belt. Anxious to begin, he expands said pokeball as he steps back several paces to for a makeshift field between them. "Would you care to do the honors of revealling your pokemon first?"
With a pounding heart and a soft gulp, Melissa, breathing hard, nods softly, also taking a couple of steps back. She doesn't turn her head around, but, thankfully enough, she doesn't crash into anyone - that would be too much for the shy girl to take. "I... um..." Melissa waves her left hand (the one not holding the pokeball) to Adrian, and cries out a small, "G... Good luck!" It wasn't very loud, but if Adrian was paying even a little attention, he'd hear it. Under her breath and through clenched teeth, the Pewter girl whispers, "I'm counting on you." Nothing flashy goes into her movements, however. A simple underhanded tosses tends her pokeball crash onto the ground, and, in a brilliant flash of light, out pops an Ivysaur - Lamia, Melissa's most experienced and intelligent pokemon. <Hmm?> The Ivysaur glances about softly, eyes shifting left and right. <Is it time already?> Melissa can't speak - not yet, at least. This'll be her most exciting battle yet - and it means a lot to her.
Melissa chooses a Ivysaur!
Lamia(#2641DMps)
An old Ivysaur, Lamia looks very experienced and somewhat battle worn. This doesn't stop her from having quite an impressive physique; she seems to be rather healthy. Her red eyes shine with intelligence, and she has three triangular dark spots between her eyes. Being a four legged animal allows for the bud and leaves on her back to obtain maximal sunlight, although it looks as though, if she wanted to, Lamia could stand on her hind legs without her balance being offset by the growing flower on her back. The green pokemon has dark spots set here and there, but they are most condensed about her face.
Choji arrives from Maiden's Peak: Southern Entrance.
Choji has arrived.
Adrian nods as Melissa waves at him. "Good luck to you, too," he calls back before looking down at his pokeball. "We've been training really hard for this. Go out there and give it your all," he says quietly before tossing the pokeball out on the field. It pops open with a flash of white, which forms into a rather unexpected combatant. <Cyber Gal dot exe online. Checking password for username Adrian,> the Porygon chirps. <Password accepted, performing virus scan.> Pause. <Warning! Warning! Virus detected! Preparing anti-virus programs!>
Adrian chooses a Porygon!
Cybergal has arrived.
Melissa rolls 1 die: <6>
Adrian rolls 1 die: <4>
As Adrian calls out his pokemon, Melissa can only blink. A few questions run though her mind. What in the world is that thing? And, more important, how can you even tell it's female in the first place? Melissa's first physical reaction is to reach down at her pokedex, but logic and reason seem in only a second later - if she reacts *now*... "Um. All right... Lamia! Use your... Poison Powder attack!"
Lamia turns her head slightly. Isn't it a bit soon? Should she not greet her opponent first? Is that not the honorable thing to do? However, the Ivysaur also quickly realizes the need for speed, and she charges forward - not too fast, however, as her steady pace allows for her to come to a quick stop - and her attack is launched into action. "Ivvvy!" she cries out, spewing out a thick cloud of a purplish, powdery substance at the Porygon before she even comes to a complete halt. It's none other than a Poison Powder attack.
Walking through the area is a girl with, of all things, a giant feline on a leash. Maybe walking isn't the right word for it. Mikomi is -trying- to walk, while the cat is trying to do everything -but- walk where Mikomi wants him to walk. This has become a fun game for the Persian over the last day or two. In any case, the feline eventually decides to lay down, and after a few more moments, the girl decides she is too tired to drag the cat around with her anymore, so she sits down, too. A pokedex is fished out of her pocket as she sees two people with pokemon up ahead preparing to battle, but she tries to just remain quiet otherwise, as to not disturb them.
> Mikomi is attempting to scan your Ivysaur. '+scan/approve Mikomi Ivysaur' or '+scan/reject Mikomi Ivysaur'.
> Scan approved.
As the Ivysaur rushes Adrian's Porygon, said pokemon makes a series of noises, as if she were scanning her opponent. <Virus identified,> she chirps, just in time to slide out of the way of the incoming Poison Powder. <Dual-class Grass/Poison virus, sub-class Ivysaur. Engage defensive subroutine Conversion.> With that, the Porygon glow starts to change to a mix of green and purple.
Melissa's confusion at the strange looking attack spells for Lamia's hesitation. "Wh... What in the world..?" It's glowing. That *can't* be good. Is it going to explode or something? Or... what? A loud "Saur!" breaks Melissa's thoughts however, and her mind shifts back to the battle. "Oh! Oh, um, um. Lamia, try... Try... Vine Whip!" And the trainer's inexperience (or perhaps forgetfulness) shine forth. The plant-dino nods softly, growling softly as vines extend from her leaves. <I don't know what you just did,> growls the Ivysaur. <But I'm not going to let myself find out!> The vines now extend in the computer pokemon's defense, crackling and snapping in a frenzied manner the moment they get close enough.
The Porygon slides backwards, avoiding the Vine Whip with a little room to spare. "Great start, Cyber Gal! Now take the offensive with a Psybeam," Adrian calls out. <Command recieved. Offensive subroutine Psybeam engaged,> the Porygon replies as she starts to glow blue-green around the edges. Said glow then focuses into her beak before being shot off in a Psybeam attack.
Melissa can only peer as the beam of pure energy smashes right into her pokemon's face. What in the world *is* this pokemon? And what is it using? And, most importantly, why is her best pokemon getting beaten so badly? ... And why hasn't the thing exploded yet?! With a little growl, Melissa points directly at the Porygon. "Lamia! Try a Tackle attack!" It doesn't *look* that sturdy - perhaps this'll work better?
The Ivysaur, a little knocked off balance but still good to go, bursts right into action, charging straight at the odd pokemon with as much speed as the old pokemon can summon. Melissa grits her teeth and can only hope that the grass pokemon is fast enough.
Scarlett arrives from Maiden's Peak: Lone Residentials.
Scarlett has arrived.
Cyber Gal once again manages to dodge the incoming attack, surprising her trainer immensely. "She seems to be having trouble hitting you, but I want you to make it even harder," Adrian cheers. "Agility!" The Porygon doesn't reply verbally this time, but her treads seem to be trying to add a bit of a gold glow around the edges of the green and purple.
Springtime means pokemon love all around, soon babies will abound! (Saving)

This. Really. Stinks. First of all, the thing glows like it's going to explode. Then it fires some horrible beam that roasted her poor pokemon's face. Now it's just sort of glowing again. Of course, this attack Melissa knows - It's Agility. Melissa thinks quickly, bringing her her right hand to adjust her glasses gently. "Try... C'mon, Lamia! Try to frighten it with a Growl attack!" Hrm. Glowing green and purple... What in the world could that mean?
Lamia glares at the Porygon, her face not showing a single sign of the pain from the Psybeam. Her Growl is controlled - not propelled by intense anger or extreme hatred, but a kind of aggression - she's not only Growling to terrify the Porygon, but also to build up her own thrill. "Saurrrrrrrrrrr..." she emits, pausing for only split seconds at a time to inhale.
>> Stats have been changed by Melissa.
The Porygon is pre-occupied with powering up her Agility and ends up taking the full brunt of the Growl. Adrian, however, seems unfazed by this turn of events. "You're doing great, Cyber Gal," he calls out. "Just use the strategy we used at the Battle Royal with Cheese." Again, there is no verbal response from the Porygon as she fires off another Psybeam, knowing exactly what Adrian was referring to.
Lamia, now built up a bit by her rage, takes into a rather dexterious dive, barely making it out of the way of the Psybeam attack. Oh, if only she were younger - she could have rolled instead. Still, the Ivysaur's in perfect position to spring up and attack, and Melissa notices this. "Quick, Lamia, quick! Tackle! Tackle!" Oh, wow. Given the Porygon's position, the Ivysaur's position, and the Porygon's possible preoccupation with the Psybeam... Melissa claps one hand into the other, producing a rather loud smack. She's into this. At the exact same moment of Melissa's clap, Lamia pounces forward, still growling though much softer than before. She does not cry out and she does not shout a threat; she simply charges, leaping into the air at the exact right moment in a Tackle attack.
This time, Cyber Gal barely manages to slide out of the way of the incoming Tackle. "Okay, Cyber Gal," Adrian shouts from the sidelines, "stay calm and use Sharpen." <Command recieved. Executing offensive preperatory subroutine Sharpen.> Once again, the Porygon attempts to add another color to the edges of her glow, only this time, it's a metallic silver.
Scarlett has disconnected.
>> Stats have been changed by Adrian.
The quick adrenaline rush is over, and thought and reason flush back into Melissa's head. "Didn't work," she mumbles softly, crossing her arms across her chest. She's moving about so anxiously. Can't she stand still once in a while? "Lamia... Try..." She glances up at the sky. Well, the sun's still there... And it's worth a shot. "Try a... a Solar Beam attack, Lamia!" <Got it!> is Lamia's instant reply. She starts charging up the moment she hears the command, little particles of the remaining light flowing into her flower quickly. Cyber Gal's Sharpen attack should probably give her a slight bit of time to charge up. The moment Lamia is ready, however, she bows her body slightly... and launches a large golden colored beam out of her flower. It is directed straight at the Porygon.
Unfortunately for Melissa, the Sharpen attack was fairly quick in its execution, giving Cyber Gal enough time to duck out of the Solar Beam's path. This time, Adrian doesn't even need to shout out an instruction for his Porygon to carry out, as another Psybeam lashes out at her thus-far worthy adversary.
A flicker of a hint of something pops into Melissa's head as her Ivysaur cries in pain. Could the attack that Porygon keeps using be a Solar Beam? ... Unfortunately, Melissa realizes that's not so. Solar Beam seems much different. "Lamia..." Melissa half-shouts, half-says, her brain racing to formulate a plan. "If... um, if you can't... dodge it... overpower it! Use, um, use a Growth attack!"
Lamia has a splitting headache right about now, causing for the half-plant to grumble and growl grouchily. Still, she recognizes the logic of her trainer's command, and, taking in a deep breath, she attempts to puff out her chest, make her flower appear larger, and just generally attempt to appear as a large, more formidable foe. This isn't exactly a speedy process, however - Will the Ivysaur get distracted from her Growth attack or, even worse, attacked during it? Melissa bites her lip softly and hopes not.
The Porygon appears unfazed at the Ivysaur's attempt to "pump herself up", as it were. Heck, this girl has faced a Haunter before and was able to hold her own, Only the intervention of two other Pokemon spelled her downfall. "Way to go, girl," Adrian calls out. "This time, use a Tri Attack.> This time, a white projectile in the shape of a triangle forms at the tip of the Porygon's beak, only to be fired off in the Ivysaur's general direction.
The Tri Attack hits its target dead on its victim's face, causing for the Ivysaur to stumble back as she feels... err, is it coldness? ... Or heat? ... Or... she can't tell. All she knows is that it's pain - and mixed with her headache, it's not helping much. Lamia's pain is obvious - Melissa cringes at it. "Don't... give up on me, Lamia," the girl whispers under her breath, before taking in a quick breath and calling out, "Try... Try a Tackle attack, Lamia!" Through her eyes squinted by pain, the Ivysaur bursts the fastest dash she's ever made. It certainly is quick - but, due to her hindered eyesight, she's taking a stab at blind chance to have this attack hit. The Porygon should react quickly - but if she can, it should be an easy dodge.
The partial blindness does take its toll, as the Porygon hovers out of the way with ease. Adrian, meanwhile, is barely able to contain his joy at his good fortune. He has never been able to do this well in a tournament battle before. "Keep it up, Cyber Gal," he cheers. "You know what to do." Indeed she does, for as soon as these words leave Adrian's lips, Cyber Gal charges up yet another Psybeam, aiming to broadside the Ivysaur this time as the attack is fired.
<OOC> Mikomi says "Ivysaur xxxxoo | oooo Porygon +2d (Grs/Poi)"
The Psybeam once again hits the Ivysaur; this time, it hits her when her blindness prevents her from seeing it. Her head is pounding, and both pokemon and trainer feel like the battle is all but lost - but that certainly doesn't give either Melissa or Lamia the right to just quit. "Please hang in there, Lamia!" Melissa practically pleads with her Ivysaur, who can only nod softly amidst a pounding head. "Just... just... Try another Growth attack!" Melissa calls through clenched teeth. Ivysaur's head may be hurting, but her heart's still pumping - and through her practical migraine, she lifts her head up, spreads her flower, puffs up her chest, and even absorbs a tad of the quickly vanishing sunlight to make herself appear bigger - all the while concentrating deeply. She can't give up. She can lose, but she can't just give up.
>> Stats have been changed by Melissa.
<OOC> Mikomi says "Ivysaur +1a +1d xxxxoo | oooo Porygon +2d (Grs/Poi)"
Cyber Gal seems taken aback as she witnesses the Ivysaur's increase in girth. There is, however, one thing the opponent forgot. By concentrating on the Growth, they have left the Ivysaur's side open for another attack, and both Adrian and his Porygon realize this. "She's too big for a physical assault now," Adrian calls out, "so stick to your projectiles." The response is immediate, as another triangle is fired from the tip of the Porygon's beak.
Acuario has disconnected.
Thankfully, the Growth attack is successful - but the Ivysaur only just opens her eyes before the triangles catch her right off guard. This time it's not just a stumble back - it's a full-fledged backward somersault. For a pokemon weighing one hundred twenty pounds, that's no joke. The plant pokemon stays on the ground for two seconds. Perhaps the longest two seconds of Melissa's life. The Pewter girl appears absolutely horrified. "Lamia!" she half yells, instinctively reaching right for her pokeball. "No, no... I can't, I..." By the time the girl is finished fumbling about for her pokeball, the Ivysaur has already ascended to all four paws - and she's practically trembling. Partially from the weakness in her legs, partially from absolute aggression. The Ivysaur takes deep breaths, attempting to keep herself controlled... At least long enough until Melissa gives an attack. Now is not the time to ignore her trainer - while it is true that Melissa's guidance is getting her pokemon absolutely creamed, both are willing to stick in there. It's been all of five seconds after the attack hit - but it seems so much longer. "Oh, Lamia..." Melissa whispers softly, fingering her pokeball, switching it from hand to hand. "All right." With a very, very slight smile and a gentle nod, Melissa gives her pokemon an attack. "Lamia! Razor Leaf attack!" Melissa hasn't even pronounced the L before the Ivysaur is already furiously into her attack, sending cutting leaf after cutting leaf through the air in a frenzied and practically uncontrolled manner, relying now completely on strength and nothing on control. It certainly is a desperate move - but there's nothing left to lose.
Dana has disconnected.
Adrian is practically trembling by this time. The Ivysaur is obviously weakened, while Cyber Gal is still going strong. He manages to calm down enough to give his pokemon instructions, however. "I believe you know what to do, Cyber Gal, so do it," he states. <Command recieved,> the Porygon chirps, even as she is powering up for one more Psybeam.
And there goes the match. No matter how many of the Razor Leaves hit - if any - the Porygon is able to get her final attack in. Even as the Psybeam is launched, Lamia continues her onslaught - but it's not enough. The Psybeam hits the grass pokemon dead on, and, with a slight gasp, the large pokemon collapses to the ground, her headache spiralling out of control and driving her into complete unconciousness.
"Oh, Lamia..." the girl whispers softly, bring up her left hand to wipe her eye, which, although not dripping with tears, is beginning to water. This is like watching her best friend getting beat up - but, thankfully, she has the power to end this. "Lamia... return!" Melissa thrusts her pokeball out, and activates it. A shining pink light pieces through the air, its destination reached. The Ivysaur, motionless, is returned to her pokeball. Melissa lifts the device up to her bosom, and for six seconds or more, simply embraces it, not saying a word.
Adrian can see that his opponent is having a hard time handling the defeat, so he crosses over to where she is standing. I know how you feel, I've been on the recieveing end of some spectacular defeats myself," he says. "Just don't let that make you think any less of your pokemon. You've got quite a specimen in that Ivysaur."
Springtime means pokemon love all around, soon babies will abound! (Saving)
A tear finally drips from the girl's right eye, followed by another one from her left eye. Melissa finally stops hugging the pokeball, bringing it back down to her pokebelt. "It's okay..." whispers the girl, lifting her head. Despite her dripping eyes, she's smiling softly - though probably not at her opponent. "Lamia... will accept her... her, um, her defeat." Melissa lingers for a moment longer, before letting forth a sad little sniff. "I... just don't know if I can." The reasonable, logical point of view - which, despite some of her actions, is actually rather present and strong - is telling her: You signed up for the tournament, knowing you would lose or win! You told yourself you'd accept your first real defeat! There will be other times. Melissa turns away from Adrian, rubbing her head softly. If it's her reasonable side speaking... Why does she still feel so bad?
While Adrian tries to comfort Melissa, Cyber Gal is chirping away off to the side. <Ivysaur-class virus neutralized, searching area for further threats,> she says, before making some noises that sound like she's scanning the region. Adrian, realizing his statement isn't having the desired effect, simply takes the Porygon's pokeball and calls her back, saying, "Sorry it ended this way. Cyber Gal, return." As he says this, said pokemon has one last thing to say before being recalled. <No further system threats detected. Cyber Gal dot exe, logging off,> she chirps before the red beam of the pokeball grabs her and takes her away.
Cybergal is recalled by Adrian.
Cybergal has left.
Lamia is recalled by Melissa.
Lamia has left.
Melissa takes off her glasses, nervously rubbing them back and forth on her shirt to clean them. "No..." she whispers softly. "It's... it's... all right... Not your fault." Melissa just gives a soft little sigh, before turning back around, slowly and cautiously, to face Adrian. "I... I'm sorry I'm acting like this..." Another tear drips loose, causing Melissa to bite her lip in anger at herself. Why is she acting like this? She's not a five year old. But the rank stench of defeat, humiliation... and watching her pokemon suffer so much internal pain... Melissa clenches her right fist. Her left hand places her glasses back on her face. Another tear. "I... I gotta go... Um, congratulations." Without even waiting for a goodbye or a nice battle, Melissa whirls around and practically runs. Every thought she has, every little cell in her mind, is telling her she's acting immaturely, acting wrongly, acting completely... antisocial... but her legs keep moving anyway. And perhaps she's only doing it because she wants to make sure Lamia is okay. Or perhaps she just needs to mentally stabilize herself. Whatever the case, the girl moves quickly to the Pokemon Center - not even once glancing back at Adrian or the park.
