Brazilian Amazon Jungle Trip |
This is just a small review of my fishing trip to Brazil. We fished and camped on the Tapera River. My fishing partner and I caught over 100+ Peacock Bass per angler per day. We practice catch and release. Pound for pound, they are the hardest fighting fish in the world. I was able to do a little nature photography from a moving boat. We were four nautical miles from the equator on the hottest day of the year. The temperature reached 112 degrees F on most days. Long sleeves and pants in addition to sunscreen were required to prevent burns. We even had to wear sungloves. There are many dangers including headhunters. Headhunting is outlawed but still practiced by tribes. Who's going to enforce it? The nearest town is 800 miles away. Although there were inherent dangers, there was also inherent beauty. Parrots, tucans, butterflies, and tropical fish. There were animals there that are found no where else in the world. They are: freshwater dolphin, freshwater stingrays, tapers, and six foot river otters. Enjoy! |

This is a jungle runway. It is located in Santa Maria, which is only 500 miles from basecamp. It is considered the scabees and lice capital of the world. We could not even talk to children or hand them anything because of the risk of contracting various illnesses. |

This is Basecamp Tapera. We slept in tents that floated on the water. We could move them if the fishing was bad and kept the predators at bay. |

This is an overhead view from the plane of the Amazon Jungle. The trees you see are 100-200 feet tall. This will give you some perspective of the immensity of this jungle. It is so thick you can not see the ground beneath the trees. |
