Syd had his last chemo treatment a week ago today. He normally eats a little less the first 3-5 days, but this time, he refused to eat anything (we tried canned food, hot dogs, hamburger, chicken, etc) for almost 4 days. He usually refuses to eat breakfast, but I could get him to eat a 1/2 can from a small can of dog food in the evening. We haven't been giving him his "P" pills (the clinical trial pills) for a few days in case he just needs a rest from them to get back to normal eating. Since his last treatment, he has had really stinky but lighter brownish with almost a tint of pinkish to it dirrahea. He has been throwing up a little bile since his stomach is not full. Monday, he scared my husband when Syd started throwing up and was trying to run toward the door. He then stopped and got a drink of water and then he tried to turn around and my husband said it looked like he got panicked or disoriented and fell down on the carpet. But he had that wild eyed look of panic. I think it's just because he is weak from not eating and just gets disoriented sometimes. He knows if he's going to throw up, we normally race him outside, so maybe he was trying to go to the door. Tuesday night, I was able to get him to eat a whole small can of dog food and he ate last night again. This morning, he ate with more gusto than he has. He started whining and crying last night so I went downstairs and let him out to potty, cleaned him up then laid on the floor with him and we both slept well. So hopefully with food in him, he'll get better and get back on track. I asked my husband if the pinkish tint (from my perspective it looks pinkish, but it's not black which he said would be an indicator of blood in the stools) in Syd's dirrahea would be something to worry about and he said no, unless it's tarry black or bright red. So I guess it's just like bile they throw up on an empty stomach or the chemo causing it to be so stinky. But he's acting a little goofier than usual this morning, so it's a slow process of getting him going again after his last treatment. His next appt is in a month for a thorough exam and CBC. He then is scheduled to get his lungs x-rayed the last of January (unless we decide to go ahead and do another set the end of this month). |
