Evening 8-28-03: Syd kept crying and whining all night last night, not sure why. I think he was awake and everyone else was asleep despite being given 2 Tylenol 4's. I think he just wants company, although he was crying (not screaming) a little more when he tried to get up today more than he has in the past few days. Morning 8-29-03: Syd hasn't been eating real good. Normally polishes off a large can of dog food but now he only eats like half. Oh well, at least he's eating. I got to see him first hand go down the ramp by himself. The other few times he has gone down, I've been in front of him to slow him down the first step cause he acts like he's going to stumble. But I let him go down because he acted like he wanted to go down by himself so I just left him to his own accord. I was surprised that he never stumbled, but actually slowed himself down with his front leg and took kind of sideway steps with his back legs. He's done it twice now, so I have no worries that he can do it!!! He's oozing less and less and we clean him up like several times a day because he starts trying to tighten his shoulder muscles whenever he feels it on his skin. So the cleaner we keep it, the less he scratches it. He tried to lick it by where it's at is too high up and he can't lick it, even with his long tongue! (That reminds me of something that Syd would do as a puppy. He was a tall puppy and he would wait on my husband's side of the bed and just stare at him. My husband would stare back and Syd would wait until my husband opened his mouth to say something and Syd would give him a big old rotten french kiss, tongue and all! It happened more than once so I think he just liked messing with my husband. I guess that'll teach my husband to keep his big mouth shut!! LOL) I'm also a little worried that he hasn't pooped since last Wednesday (his surgery was Thursday of last week). Does it take awhile to start pooping again or what should I be giving him to help him? We just got a newer Chev Astro van that is a few years newer than our old Astro minivan. My husband went to run an errand and took K.D. (one of Syd's daughters) with him. She tried to get into the van and it must be a hair taller than the other one and she slammed her shoulder into the running board/step. Now SHE'S limping like Syd is (barely using her front left leg). My husband came home and didn't tell me what she had done and I saw her walking trying to find a place to lay down and I ran to her to figure out what was wrong with her and thought "no, please, no!!". I cautioned him about having them get hurt because sometimes old injuries flare up to be cancer. So we're giving her some deramaxx tonight for the next few nights since Syd is not on deramaxx right now and hopefully she's just bruised it slightly. <sigh> I swear, if it's not one thing, it's another. And another example of stuff happening on a holiday weekend! |
