Just wanted to update everyone as Syd has had quite an eventful day! In my last post, Syd had been oozing water pinkish discharge, which I think it normal. Throughout the afternoon and evening, he has been whining/crying/moaning even though he acts like he's trying to fall asleep in the "down" position. I let him have a little water to drink, which he did. Still kept crying/whining. After awhile, I opened the door at the top of the ramp and let everyone go outside to potty and eat, thinking maybe Syd might join us on his own. No luck. He stayed downstairs, but kept looking around like he wanted to get up, but didn't want to at the same time. Everyone got fed and I let everyone back in via the ramp (they are liking the ramp, even the scaredey cat Jazmine!). I figured if Syd sees them going up and down the ramp, maybe he will be more inclined to use it, unless until his wound heals and he won't hurt himself further trying to go up so many steps. (He's been so out of it since he did that this morning). I brought Syd some canned food and kibble down and he didn't want to eat. I then cut up some chicken thighs and brought down. He refused. I had to coax him to take one lick and then he ate a few pieces. I put his 2 cephalaxin pills in with some chicken skin and he ate it down. But he didn't want anymore after that. (darn, thought I had him convinced he wasn't taking pills). I tried several more times and he just didn't look like he wanted anymore. I gave it to the rest of the dogs and came in and tried to clean his oozing a little with a warm washcloth. I gave him another short drink and left to pour the dirty water out in the bathroom sink. When I returned, he was standing up (didn't hear any scream at all....yeah!!!), so I asked him if he needed to potty and went to the ramp. He just laid down. I went to my computer and he started the constant whining/moaning/crying and he kept looking around like he wanted to go somewhere. I told him if he wanted in the other room, to just stand up and go, that I knew he could do it (Like he understand what the heck I'm saying! LOL). He kept moaning and I laid down beside him, thinking he was oozing again and he was. (He's oozed more today than yesterday....I just hope he didn't rip something loose deep down inside when he went up those long steps today....I didn't see any pink spots on the carpet, so I don't think he fell at all). He would calm down and lay down without screaming and he started crying again. So much for comfort. My husband called and said it was raining cats and dogs where he works and to go outside to shut car windows. I saw it hadn't started raining where I'm at yet, so I opened the door to the ramp and yelled for everyone to come and go potty, which they did. Syd was in the room where the ramp is and wouldn't budge. We went outside and I kept yelling for him to come on out. He didn't. I then let everyone else back in via the ramp and looked inside and Syd was not there. I saw him in the hallway standing there. I told him to come here up the ramp if he needed to potty. He looked in the bedroom where the dog beds are at and went in there and laid down. So I guess he just needed a change of scenery. Someone on my CBC list mentioned to just ignore him and he would do what he felt like doing on his own, like going outside to potty or going upstairs. Of course, downstairs, we have concrete floors or dog beds that can be cleaned easily whereas if we let him upstairs while he's still oozing a lot, we'd really have to stay with him to put a towel underneath him and it's hot upstairs, so I think he'd rather stay down here or at least go out in the garage if my husband is working out there. Will be a good test tomorrow as my husband will leave him alone and let him go when and where he wants to go while I'm at work. I guess I'm just a softie and figure that it's too soon after surgery, especially with the problems he has had, to expect him to rebound and act normal so soon after surgery. At least I know he can get up without screaming now and the screaming is less and less, which is a good sign. Oh well, he's now in the other room and starting to whine. I guess it's time for his 2 Tylenol 4 pills. Hopefully they will kick in after awhile so he can get some rest. He keeps panting even though it's cool down here. Does that mean he's stressing and in pain? I hope not. I'm off to bed (hopefully). |
