Whenever we weren't right beside him, Syd would cry and still scream, although it was not nearly as frequent as it had been the night before. Sydney has spent the day just moaning and crying. He doesn't want to eat and didn't even want his deramaxx. He did drink some water some though. My husband fixed me a hamburger and brought it down. Syd kept whining while he was in a down position and I think he wanted part of my hamburger, so I had to oblige him. Later, my husband brought everyone down some chicken thighs and cut it up for Syd, since it appears he still has a difficult time chewing due to the excision of the fatty tissue from his left jaw. He ate that heartily! He is still drinking water, but we don't give him a whole lot in case he cannot get out to potty. I called into the vet and they told me he would call back. I laid down beside Syd and rubbed the shaved skin above his incision and he fell sound asleep (well at least asleep). I took a short nap (30 minutes) and then woke up and figured he might stay asleep while I went to run a few errands. When I walked out the door, I could hear him crying, then scream. I told myself to just hurry up and do my errands and come back in for the night. When I got back home a little while later, I noticed he had gotten up from the concrete floor and laid over on top of one of the dog beds. He was wagging his stump (tail) as I walked up, but looks very, very sad. He still occassionally whimpers, whines and cries and screams, but it's not every 15 minutes like last night. The vet said I could take the catheter out, which I did by trying to pull it fast. Doesn't work when you have fur. <sorry, Syd!> I finally got the tape off and the thing removed and he seemed pleased with that.
