"What Did I Do To My Dog?"
The vet did give me a call back and said to give him some valium 10mg every few hours. Also to give him some more deramaxx since they had given him a lower dose than normal in case we had to double up on them the first few days. About 9pm, we gave Syd a valium. He would be okay for awhile, then he would just start moaning and crying and when he tried to barely move of he would run in his dream, he would scream. Then we would massage above the incision to help him relax again. I laid down with him when he kept acting like he was tired of laying down and wanted to get up (he would roll over into a laying position with his head upright), so I helped him stay up by sitting in front of his head, putting one leg behind his back for the length of his body and the other one on the stomach side of him away from his incision. He seems to like that (being propped up a little), so I stayed that way and he wasn't crying and kept wanting me to pet him. I told him I couldn't stay like that all night and got up after while. We then got a soft dog bed for him (as he was lying on concrete floor) and put it up under him as far as we could so that most of his front half was on the bed. He then semi-fell asleep, screaming about every 20-30 minutes. About 12:30am, he cried and I went in to see how he was doing. He acted as if he wanted to get up so we helped get him up (he would not do so on his own) and got him onto the carpeted ramp (which at that time didn't had sides on it). He would hop one step, then just freeze. We got all his feet going the same direction and tried to coax him and he started wanting to go way too fast and fell on his incision and blood starting squirting out a little. We then laid him back down and put some towels over the incision. We then relaxed him again and gave him another deramaxx. My husband then said he FINALLY fell asleep and relaxed totally about 2am. But all during the night, he would reach out with his leg to make sure my husband was still there. He did eat dinner fine and had a little bit of water about 7pm.  Needless to say, it was a very stressful night for all of us. And the whole time I kept thinking "What did I do to my dog???"
