"The
Schroeder Herd"
Peppi Schroeder |
- Welcome to my website! This website is meant to share
the joys of owning rottweilers. I started out with 7
rottweilers Shayla and Sydney and their 5 offspring
Blue, Runt, Jazzy, KD and Greta. Sadly, I'm currently
down to only one rottweiler to keep me company besides
my husband, that is! My very first rottweiler, Shayla,
had to be released on November 27, 2002 from cancer of
the spine. Her soulmate Sydney lost his battle with
osteosarcoma on June 16, 2004. Sydney and Shayla are the
parents of "The Herd", which are their offspring. I was
hoping OS would stay away, but sadly, I lost Blue to
osteosarcoma February 6, 2006. I then lost Jazzy to a
sudden and freak intestional blockage on July 23, 2006. I
then lost Runt to osteosarcoma on August 21, 2006, then
out of nowhere, KD got sick and died after surgery to
remove her spleen after discovering she had malignant
histiocytic sarcoma on October 4, 2006. More information
is to come on this website on the offspring of Syd & Shayla.
The "last woman standing" is Greta Girl, aka/Greta. She
and KD celebrated their 10th birthday 9/16/06 before KD
died. Greta is used to having 4 other littermates to
compete with and she is lonely, but we are trying our
best to keep her spirits up. They are just ordinary pets
who have extraordinary personalities. How did I end up with
7 rotties, you ask? For more information on that, please go

- Rottweilers
- As if you couldn't tell already! I LOVE
rottweilers! With proper socialization and
training to be good citizens, rottweilers can be
a very loyal, loving, caring dog. Rotties are NOT
for everyone. It takes a LOT of time and COMMITTMENT
on your part to ensure that your rottie is a good
citizen of society and not one that unfortunately
ends up on the news of hurting someone. So you
think you want a Rottie? BEFORE
you decide, please read this article: So

- Canine Cancer
- There are SO many dogs, including a huge number of rottweilers who have fallen prey to cancer, especially a painful bone cancer called Osteosarcoma. Sydney (2004) and Shayla (2002) and 2 of their "kids" Blue and Runt (Feb 2006 & Aug 2006) have become victims of this horrid disease. Their daughter KD was struck by a different cancer Malignant Histiocytic Sarcoma in October 2006. Please take some time to visit Syd and Shayla's "Journey with Canine Bone Cancer" page. It has a lot of links to informational websites, including stories from other dogs who have been on the same sad journey. I hope to add a little of Blue, Runt and KD's story soon.
Also, the BoneCancerDogs support group (you can join below) has a new website!! Click here BoneCancerDogs.org to visit us! This site is a premier "one stop center" for great information on osteosarcoma and other canine cancers, treatments, stories, etc.

- Search and Rescue
- I love Search and Rescue dogs. They are the most wonderful dogs ever! And what better way to represent the rottweiler breed than to be not only a working dog, but one who is a good canine citizen in society! Here is a very poignant slideshow dedicated to all the SAR dogs who helped search at Ground Zero in NYC after September 11, 2001. Have your hanky ready. America Canine Search and Rescue Photos Tribute Slideshow. If you'd like to learn more about some rottweilers who are Search and Rescue dogs (SAR dogs), please visit Gunner at Ground Zero and Gunner To The Rescue. To learn more about Search and Rescue in general, check out these websites A List of SAR units in the USA.

- Rottweiler Rescue
- Because so many people get rottweilers and don't do their homework first, a lot of rotties end up in shelters or abandoned. Visit the Mid America Rottweiler Rescue website to learn more about rottweiler rescue!
-
- Therapy Rotts
- There is nothing better for the breed than therapy dogs that are rottweilers. Gives people a chance to see that a well socialized, well trained rottweiler can be a productive member of society!
