| The Deities | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Wiccans generally believe in an energy force (like in Star Wars) that is present everywhere in the universe. This force, or spirit, is referred to by many names. I will call it The All. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Now Wiccans also believe in equality and balance. Thus the Goddess and God are two aspects of The All: they represent the male and female aspects. If there was only the God, to a Wiccan it would seem uneven, since only the male aspect is represented. Just as if there was only the Goddess, it would also be inequal, since only the female side would be shown. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The Wiccan Goddess and God are deities of love. They are there to help you and rejoyce with you, not to judge and punish you. As the Goddess says, "all acts of love and pleasure are my rituals." |

| The Goddess has three phases: Maiden, Mother, and Crone. (Spring, Summer, and Winter) Usually, she is depicted in one of these forms. However, you are quite free to choose how you want to see her. Some think of her as a warrior, and others, a blushing bride. Still others would rather see her as the pure energy she is. Traditionally, she is thought of as the Mother of the Earth and the Lady of the Moon. |

| The God is usually depicted as a pan-like man with horns and cloven hooves and a tail. Sound a little familiar? This is NOT the devil, although I have read that the image of Satan in Chrisitanity was designed from the pagan god of the Celts. Kind of like, "if we change your god into a devil, we'll get more converts?" I don't know if this is true. My point is though that the Wiccan god is God, and just as sacred and loving. He is simply the masculine form of the energy of the All. Many people also see the god as a stag. But again, it is entirely up to you on how you want to view the deities. The God is traditionally thought of as the Lord of the Sun and the wild animals. |

| Many people choose not to view the seperate deities at all, but rather to see the pure energy force, the Spirit, The All, that is sacred. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
