| Bears all come from the same family, and so are all linked with healing and the West in some way. Because of their important hibernation, they have strong Mother Earth medicine, and they teach us about reconnecting, and rejeneration. Often, Bear is seen as a symbol of rebirth because she "dies" in the winter (to rest) and is "reborn" again in the spring. They are also about family, and are a symbol to mothers everywhere, for no mother is better revered than the Bear mother. |

| Of the bears, black bear is the one most accociated with the very West. Black bear is linked to the water and the moon, and is all about healing. This bear is perhaps considered the most "gentle" of the bears as well. |
| In Asia, there is a type of black bear called the Asiatic black bear, or the "Moon Bear." This bear has a white crescent moon on its chest. It lives around the Himalayan mountains. Black bear is known to be linked to water and the moon, but Moon Bear is revered for it. |
| Grizzly Bear/Brown Bear |
| Of the bears, brown bear, or grizzly bear, is the one most linked to the Earth. This bear is renowned for her strength and power, and ferocity, and especially her mothering abilities. |
| Polar Bear |
| Of the bears, polar bear is the one most associated with North. Polar bear lives in the cold and the snow, and has great knowledge. Polar bear is most known for wisdom. |
