When I started my teaching career many males were against the idea of teaching. It was considered a low wage job only available to women. When I first came to Paris, the principals weren't warm with my welcome since seeing men as teachers disgusted their insides. Teaching was a profession for the weak. Men were supposed to be trained as soldiers and prepare to go to war. I, on the other hand, decided that teaching was a career I want to head for. The first time I entered the classroom, I didn't know what to do. The students were always giggling around and not paying attention to any of my lectures. When I talk to Mr. William, the only other male teacher apart from me, he said that he received the same reaction when he first came. When we had lunch together, I noticed the way he acts towards his students and other fellow teachers. He was really polite and had respect for them as they do to him. I realized the only reason I was receiving such a bad welcome was because of my attitude towards them. I acted like I could do the job as well as they could. When I changed my way of acting at school, I also changed my teaching method. Instead of my lecturing, I adopted Mr. William's "fun-teaching" method. The students started to pay more attention and listen in class. My relationship with students outside class also improve. They weren't as rude as before. I started to treat the other teachers nicely and not look down upon as before. After that, more men started to head towards the teaching career and the career of teaching wasn't sexist anymore.
