The book's complete title is With Or Without A Man: Single Women Taking Control of Their Lives. Author Karen Gail Lewis explores many aspects of singlehood, including how to live a fulfilling life and how to prepare for the future. She offers a lot of practical advise, but she also frequently sinks into annoying psychobabble. I suppose as a therapist she can't help herself. Lewis identifies several tasks that single women must complete if they are to be fulfilled, including maintaining good relationships with female friends, making peace with family members, and preparing for retirement. Overall the book is interesting, but I could have done without the chapter entitled "Help for Horniness," in which she gives tips for masturbating and having "successful" affairs with married men. Yikes! If you are a single woman, you may want to check this book out. Much of the book deals with single women who are mid-life or older, as well as younger women, so there really is something for everyone. You may be asking why a married woman is reading a book for single women. (My husband certainly was! LOL!) I am currently undertaking a major project of my own: a website for single Christian women. I began this project (at least planning and development) long before I met my husband, and I still feel there's a need for such a site. It's currently in the research phase, so it will be awhile before it's up and running. So, in the meantime, read Lewis's book! Return to The Book Shelf
